Meh. The plot really goes nowhere, and not many of the characters are that enjoyable. The performances are the saving grace though, with Gerwig getting a breakout role and Stiller giving his finest performance.

The sort of movie where you'll enjoy watching it, but won't remember much about it when it's over. It's all reasonable fun; don't demand too much, and you won't be disappointed.

Kick-Ass (2010)

A pretty good action-comedy, that's just really overrated (7.8 on IMDb?). There are a handful of incredibly funny scenes, and the actions pretty solid too, but the almost gleefully brutal violence has always taken me out of it a bit. The cast is strong though, with Cage giving one of his better later performances, and Moretz owning every scene she's in.

I remember being this at a flea market in Myrtle Beach. The tape had no cast, and it looked pretty rough, but at just $1.00, I thought "what the hell?" It ended up playing pretty well (though it did cut out a few times).
Critically speaking, this is just a great action film. It's got everything that you could want; great effects, great story, great direction, and surprisingly engagingly characters. While Ellen Ripley was a strong character before, I think this one is the reason she's looked upon so fondly. (Fun fact: saw this before I saw Alien)

The Ghost Writer (2010)

DVD- 2hrs. 8min.

A smart, slow moving mystery in the vein of a Hitchcock film. The cast is strong, and the direction pristine, just a bit too slow.

It's hard to analyze a movie like this. On the one hand, it's suppose to be intentionally cheesy, on the other, there are certain moments that are just bad on a basic level. Enjoyable? Yes. Recommendable? Somewhat. That action's pretty goofy, and it's effectively schlocky, but it's just never as fun as it should be. Possibly because intentional camp is never as fun as unintentional.
