It's often said, and I don't see any reason to argue, that Billy created the kind of stand-up we see nowadays.
His chatty style, his ability, and willingness to go off on tangents and his turn of phrase inspire love for him, because, they mean he's not just someone firing jokes and one-liners at you, like he's separate from you, no, he's one of you โ just one of your mates. It just so happens that he's the funniest of your mates.
Billy's genius is not only that he's one of us, it's also that he's able to make something that's so difficult to do look so effortless.

Jimmy is one of the most traditional comics on the circuit, in that he tells jokes - traditional feedline, punchline jokes - but 'knock-knock' and 'doctor, doctor' or 'a man walks into a bar' jokes aren't his style. If you want to see Jimmy, you've got to have quite a dark sense of humour. He may make you think about what you find funny; he may even offend you, but one thing you have to admit is he is a master of his craft.

What a stand-up!
Peter's genius is in his powers of observation. He's able to take our little idiosyncrasies - the tiny, sometimes unnoticeable things we all do and say - and turn them into comedy gold.

Lee occupies a space between traditional, joke-telling stand-up and observational comedian. He is a master of comedy, using very funny physical comedy, his acute observational skills and his considerable skill as a mimic to make his shows some of the funniest around.

Eddie is the comedian who made me fall in love with stand-up. He's a genius of intelligent, surrealist comedy. His style is matey and chatty, but he discusses intellectual ideas, throwing in surrealist rambles. He's very, very accomplished.
The king of the surrealist meander. Ross's genius lies in his ability to grab hold of an idea and always make it funny. Although he does have the odd set topic to talk about, the vast majority of the time, he just riffs off of interactions with the audience. He is a genuine genius.
Bill has a talent for either talking about high-brow things in a low-brow way, or low-brow things in a high-brow way, that is where comedy comes from, and very effective it is too.
