The Nanny Diaries (2007)
Director: Shari Springer Berman & Robert Pulcini
Their 4th movie
My 2nd movie watched from the director
Just when I think I've seen all of what 2007 had to offer my wife introduces me to this movie. It's nothing special but certainly better than I expected. Sure, filled with lots of cliches, but Johansson and Linney form a nice antagonist chemistry and the ending is sad and sweet.

Middle of the pack for Sandler and his gang. Funny cameos and it actually does a good job of NOT making fun of the gay community rather it makes fun of those who make fun of them. Something people didn't seem to understand and thus called it a homophobic movie.
Stehako's rating:

A sweet little Scottish family film that doesn't wow you at any point; but makes you care for a huge sea creature nonetheless.
Stehako's rating:

Shooter (2007)

Whalberg turns in his usual meager performance but Kate Mara makes up for it and the film actually delivers a few surprises and maintained my interest.
Stehako's rating:

Rush Hour 3 (2007)

I really liked the first one, nearly loved the second one; so, needless to say, this one was disappointing.
Still had enough of what I wanted - Banter and Chan choreography.
Stehako's rating:

Freedom Writers (2007)

Nothing too wildly original in this film that found Swank stuck in a poorly written script; but still comes out looking good.
Stehako's rating:

Malkovich has a blast with this role but I kind of lost interest half way through after seeing him pull the same stuff over and over.
Stehako's rating:

Nick Cage finds things and then more things and throws in some unoriginal humor and then finds more things until he finds what he really wants.

Away from Her (2006)
Director: Sarah Polley
Her First Movie
My 3rd movie watched from the director.
A tough movie to watch, not because it's not good, but because I am a husband and this is a scenario I hope I never have to face. It's a beautiful depiction of a devoted husband having to face the reality of his wife's ailment, that most notably, does not allow her to remember things... and eventually him. It's completely frustrating, sad, and lovely. I won't spoil the end, of course, but I am happy with it and I certainly liked this more than I thought I would.
The two lead performances are very strong and likely memorable. I love Julie Christie, but I am unfamiliar with Gordon Pinsent. I am not sure how he hasn't been cast in more big-picture work.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007)

Clive Owen adds some interesting scenes, and of course the story is good and Cate will always be amazing. Bonus points for the cinematography/production design improvement over the first one.
Stehako's rating:

My Kid Could Paint That (2007)

A comical documentary about what most of us think when we're in modern art galleries. Because they started filming early on in the family's career, it made it interesting not knowing where they were going with the doc.
Stehako's rating:

Eagle vs Shark (2007)

A very low budget and charming New Zealand film with Jemaine Clement, from "Flight of the Conchords"
Stehako's rating:

The Bucket List (2008)

Two great actors in a decent film about getting it done before you kick it. About friendship, love, life.
Stehako's rating:

The Mist (2007)

A warm-up of sorts to Darabont's 'The Walking Dead'. It's psychological horror at its purest. The main thing that brings this down is the acting, and surprisingly, the directing. Darabont nails the King drama/horror but this is on a lower level than 'The Green Mile' and 'Shawshank Redemption'.
The ending horrible yet brilliant at the same time.
Stehako's rating:

2 Days in Paris (2007)

A lot of interesting dialogue with two actors I really like, along with creative storytelling. However I think it could have worked better as a 20 minute short, not an entire movie
Stehako's rating:

King of California (2007)

It's refreshing to see Douglas back in a likable role and movie and Evan Rachel Wood has gotten my attention this year with this movie and "Across the Universe"
Stehako's rating:

Black Snake Moan (2006)

A strange film that made me feel dirty; but still good quality and Jackson does great in this music-centered role.
Stehako's rating:

Mr. Brooks (2007)

A wild role for Costner, possibly his best non-sports role I've seen since 'Wolves'. The ending of the film was awesome if it ended when it should have. If they stuck with the scene I'm referring to then this film could have made the top 50.

Alex Gibney tells the compelling, disgusting story of torture in the modern world. This is a documentary all US citizens need to see.
Stehako's rating:

Meet the Robinsons (2007)

Surprisingly good. A few twists and turns with a fun soundtrack and funny characters; but boasting only average CG animation.
Stehako's rating:

Enchanted (2007)

How could you not love Amy Adams after this film? Some fun songs and good use of tongue-in-cheek humor.
Stehako's rating:

The Namesake (2007)

Kal Penn should do more films like this. Come on, Kal - "Epic Movie" films or "The Namesake" films, make the right choice.
Stehako's rating:

1408 (2007)

I don't like slasher movies and I rarely enjoy horror movies because they don't actually scare me. This film sort of scared me on a few different levels, plus it had me fooled a couple times.
