List Type:
Genre: Indie, electrorock.
BBC list position: N/A
Actuality: Didn't hear much of these guys in 2009. They aren't bad though, not great, but not bad.
Genre: Pop, electronica.
BBC list position: N/A
Actuality: Again, not heard of him much. Sounds pretty standard.
Genre: Synthpop, synthrock.
BBC list position: 4th
"Australian fantasy pop heroes on a spiritual mission."
Actuality: Who? No, really. Who? I don't think I saw any of these guys in 2009. They sound (and look) interesting though.
Genre: Alt rock, indie pop.
BBC list position: 3rd
"A striking, fearless and quirky new singer-songwriter."
Actuality: Aside from Lady Gaga, Florence and the Machine has probably gained the most popularity in such a short space of time than all of the others on the list. I love their music and I can vouch that they are brilliant live. Florence's voice packs a punch and I'm looking forward to seeing them tackle the problematic second album.

Genre: Pop, electronica.
BBC list position: N/A
Actuality: Yet another not really heard of, but he's not bad, bit samey.
Genre: Hip-hop.
BBC list position: N/A
Actuality: I don't listen to much hip-hop, but I didn't really heard this guy much in 2009.
Genre: Pop, dance.
BBC list position: N/A
Actuality: Not sure why Lady Gaga didn't get a rank on the list. At the end of 2009 she was still incredibly popular. She is bonkers, and it's all part of the fascination.

Genre: Electropop, synthpop.
BBC list position: 5th.
"London synth duo aim to revive the sound of 1984."
Actuality: I'd actually say La Roux had as much play time as Little Boots and are certainly just as good, though not as good as Florence and the Machine.
tartan_skirt's rating:

Genre: Pop, electropop.
BBC list position: Ranked number 1 in the top five, the BBC chose Little Boots as their bet for the biggest rising star for 2009.
"New synth-pop queen aims for the stars."
Actuality: They did well, but were actually eclipsed by Lady Gaga and Florence and the Machine in popularity.
tartan_skirt's rating:

Genre: Hip-hop.
BBC list position: N/A
Actuality: I find him annoying. And again, he's not gained much fame from the list.
Genre: Indie, folk rock.
BBC list position: N/A
Actuality: I actually heard of these during during 2009, though mainly through advertising for their album, not in clubs or anything. They aren't half bad though, and I think they've got an ok indie following.
tartan_skirt's rating:

Genre: Electronic
BBC list position: N/A
Actuality: I've heard of these guys on and off, and it seems like they're doing alright.
Genre: Rock.
BBC list position: N/A
Actuality: I never heard them during 2009. Not quite sure who they are.
Genre: Rock, indie. (The BBC said "White Lies sound like they've recently emerged from a crypt." This is complete shit, they sound like most other indie rock bands...)
BBC list position: 2nd
"London rockers with dark, deathly anthems."
Actuality: I personally haven't heard much of this band since the list came out. Plus, the BBC's description of them is, in my completely honest option, utter bollocks. Dark and deathly? Please. I cough rougher than them.
At the start of every year the BBC release a list of bands to watch out for that coming year. This is the 2009 list.
Some of them seem to never really have achieved what the BBC expected of them, but since I live in Scotland it's hard to know what those English people have found entertaining. :P It has been clear to see though that the 80's are back, both musically and in the clothing people have been wearing (sadly), and that the projected biggest star Little Boots was out-shined by the likes of Lady Gaga and Florence and the Machine.
