The New World (2006)

Day 02 - The most underrated movie

note : Terrence Malick has directed only 4 movies in almost 40 years. This movie is his least appreciated one. It is actually my favorite (I still have to see "Days of heaven" though). To me, it is the movie with the best poetic feeling ever. It is like watching a poem, not with words but with images and sound. Incredible.

note : I saw this movie at the movie theater when it came out. I was like 15. The end of this movie was so sad that I really wanted to cry. It was something that I never experienced before when watching a movie.

note : I know, 15 years later, the twist seems little bit lame but when I saw it the first time at the movie theater, it really blew my mind.

note : Again, I saw this one when it came out at the movie theater. I got hooked right away. A year later, I bought the VHS for my sister and then for the 6 following years, I would systematically show it to everyone I would meet. I saw it like 50 times.

note : After seeing Avatar, I realized that 3D movies could be great and not a complete swindle (I was inpired by Prudence for this one. Thanks!)

Taxi (1998)

Day 12 - A movie that I hate

note : I found this one was so bad ! I remember when it came out in France. It was a huge success and everybody went to see this movie. Everybody except me. My gut was telling me it was big pile of horses..t. So I didn't go. For months, I had to hear all the comments about this movie ("This is great !" "You have to see it !",...) . After 6 months, a friend convinced me and I finally saw it on video (no DVD back then...). I was completely stoned out of mind which didn't help. After 10 minutes, there was the first real dialog and it sounded so bad , I thought it was fake and I thought someone was comploting against me... Real panic and a complete tragedy ! Anyway it was really really bad... and they made 3 sequels !!!

note : I'm not a big fan of disaster movies (2010, Volcano, Dante's peak, Armageddon...) but I definitely have a weak spot for this one !

note : When I was a kid, I used to watch it all the time. Even today, I believe it is one of the best animated movie ever.

Day 15 - A character who I can relate to the most

note : I definitely can relate to Jack, portrayed by Hunter McCracken. Like him, my folks were arguing all the time and I felt miserable about it all my childhood. Like him, my small brother used to be my best friend and like him, in spite of this beautiful relationship, I used to really beat him up on a daily basis because , I guess, I was rather messed up inside. Anyway, while watching this flick, I got really emotional because of the similarities between him and me.

Seven (1995)

Day 16 - A movie that I used to love but now hate

note : First of all, I don't hate this movie ! I couldn't find a movie I first loved ... and then hate! This one is the closest thing. The first time I saw it, I was completely blown away. I thought it was great. But the second time, I could step back and pay more attention to the small details. Eventually, I found the story quite shallow.

note : It took me like 3 or 4 years to watch this movie and it was really high on my "to-watch" movie list. It was supposed to be great and I was expecting so much !! At the end, a nice movie with very nice visuals but the story was not compelling at all.

The Bourne Identity (2002)

Day 21 - Favorite action movie

note : I think this one is better than part 2 and 3 because, here, Jason bourne is a vulnerable and insecure hero. Something really refreshing. In part 2 and 3, he just becomes another invicible and omnipotent action-hero that I have seen already 1000 times.

note : It deals about a yound man (22 years old). He is a stoner and a party animal. One day, he meets a gorgeous woman (33 years old) married with 2 children. They start this impossible relationship and they even start to live together. In spite of a happy ending, their relationship get more and more chaotic but they still stick together...
