What counts? Even though they don't necessarily include fancy graphics or comments I think these are pretty cool:

www.listal.com/list/afi-100-best-films
www.listal.com/list/afi-100-best-films-bwde
www.listal.com/list/top-box-office-hits
www.listal.com/list/palme-d-de-cannes
www.listal.com/list/leone-d-oro-di-venezia
www.listal.com/list/famous-movie-kisses
www.listal.com/list/best-movie-kisses-part
www.listal.com/list/best-picture-academy-awards (The Antagonist version. Bri was there first, but her list lacks couple of titles)

I think these fit the "information" requirement.

Also, I really like this archive.org project Ipanema started (along a few other promising ventures) and I've been helping out, but it's still very much unfinished and could use some extra help. There's hundreds of films in their database. Maybe somebody could start a Sci-Fi@archive.org etc.

Any book or TV awards lists out there?

GemLil 17 years, 3 months ago at Apr 1 19:29 -
I did my first list with thumbnails! For cop shows.

www.listal.com/list/detectives

Well I've only got the top ten done so far...it takes bloody ages. Its not worth putting up there yet, but one day I it will be.
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 3 months ago at Apr 1 19:56 -
I like that Freeware Games list. "Frets of Fire" looked pretty cool, so I downloaded it. Despite the cussing narrator while my mom was in the room....it's pretty cool. If only it could load a song without crashing.

I hate double posting; but I want people to actually look at some of these; rather than letting the thread hit the bottom of the page in a day. I added Dexter....funny how you can forget such obvious things!

Incidentaly; what are you using to thumbnail your images?

this question is very random......and it may be the pills talking coz im so sick....but i need to know....when ppl drink some kind of alcohol and go cheers....is it only a christian thing?
Moderator
GemLil 17 years, 3 months ago at Apr 2 1:58 -
no. He we all say cheers when we drink in England...and we're all bitterly agnostic.

โ€œCheerโ€ is first recorded in English in the 13th century. Its source was a Middle English word behind which was the Latin word for โ€œfaceโ€.By the mid 1400's 'What chere be with you?' was a common greeting. At this time 'chere' also began to mean good humour. It wasn't until 1919 that "Cheers" was written a salutation before a drink.
Now, its an informal expression of saying 'Thank you' or 'Goodbye'. Its become a cheerful little word !!!

They're all ignorant of its meaning I suppose. Tell them it orignates from England and anyone can use it...although it sounds best in a cockney accent with a pint of Carling in your hand.

Incidentaly; what are you using to thumbnail your images?

Just use Listal.

step 1: upload the picture to an item's picture page, example: www.listal.com/movie/dr-no-1962/pictures
and there, click on 'Post a image'

setp 2: Listal makes a new image file, as well as a smaller thumbnail file, for each image uploaded. Example, here is full one:
list.lisimg.com/image/263294/600full-dr.-no-screenshot.jpg

and here is thumbnail one:
list.lisimg.com/image/263294/160full.jpg

notice it calls one 600full and the other 160full?

So simply make sure you copy the link to the 160full image that you upload, and no matter what size it was originally, it will fine beautifully in your list.

hope it makes sense. PM me if it doesnt. 'cheers' (getting drunk here)

You wouldn't. Not from the outside.

It's a list of television shows that are popular here and dominate what Americans are allowed to know about the outside world. Some of them are higher quality than others.

Odd request. Can someone share movies they know of that begin with a dream sequence? I know I've encountered more than two movies with a dramatic intro that ends with someone gasping or screaming in bed.

EDIT: Nevermind... This type of thing is A) Overexertion for a lister and B) More profitable pointwise as a tag.
Phil 17 years, 2 months ago at Apr 5 23:55 -
Still working on it, but www.listal.com/list/blur-discography

It is (or at least will be) a comprehensive list of Blur's releases. A couple of important promos still missing, and notes still to be added, but you get the idea from the ones I've done so far.

I've also got another music list in the works at the moment, but it's not even close to ready, so I won't mention it for now.

Just make a rule only to do comics that are made into live action movies so you don't break your back. :)

p.s. Updated my IMdb Top250

FYI, here are the changes, most of them good

- Once Upon a Time in the West overtook Fellowship of the Ring for 18th place

- both 'There Will be Blood' and 'No Coutnry for Old Men' finally dropped to more realistic spots, not the Top20 they sat at before (probably skewed as my last update was around Oscar season)

- 'Fight Club' advanced a few spots, as well as Matrix

- A Clockwork Orange finally broke the Top50. Rock on!

- Ratatouille is STILL in this list (arghh!!!!!!!!!) but it dropped 10 spots. And finding nemo & incredibles still occupy the list, ahead of Children of Mena and V for Vendettta.... (ok.... breathe.... calm down........)

- Sean Penn's 'Into the Wild' enters the list at #126

- Sweeney Todd did a big drop all the way out of the list

- Totoro enters the list at #250. In nice to see good animation in the list, unlike the crap that is Toy Story, Toy Story 2, and all the other pixar flicks

'Lude... I have a new list.

IMdb Coming Soons & New in U.S.
I looked on imdb.com, on coming soons, also added the movies from the small "more" button.

sasaki, its a good start. however, for any 'new releases' list, i think we'd all like to see two key things:

- Release Date (and have the list sorted in that order)

- link to trailer, if available

Genre, Director, and Plot Synopsis would also be nice ;)

Very cool lists

and here is thumbnail one:
list.lisimg.com/image/263294/160full.jpg

You can change the 160 to any number to get different sizes, you can also leave off the 'full' to get a square image

I've also allowed the align tag for images (example left)

hey, thanks Tom! exactly what I was looking for :)

www.listal.com/list/15-most-influential-games-all

p.s. Tom, any chance for Lists to get their own sort of 'Explore' area, or maybe if a term is searched, like Tomb Raider, have the list with Tomb Raider in its name show up in a green box at top of results page, similar to how searching for an actor's name is currently displayed?

This way, if someone searches the term Tomb Raider, they can easily go to the public list and explore there, rather than pages and pages of search results.
ANBU Sasaki 17 years, 2 months ago at Apr 11 13:21 -
'Lude, I'll update my list just now.

UPDATE: Added information and trailers *if available* to the first ten main movies.

Prelude 17 years, 2 months ago at Apr 11 13:55 -
getting better :)

if you don't mind, i made an example that would jazz up the list nicely:

www.listal.com/list/temp2

go to the movie's page, go the thumbnail of the trailer, right click and copy the image. than use the image in a 'img src=' tag and put the 'a href=' link around the image. pictures = 10 times better than a simple 'trailer' word

Also, try to stick to just Upcoming releases, and sort it by date (sort it by what's coming up first)

once its released, wait say 1 week and then delete it form the list, to keep it fresh.

and in terms of multiple releases on same day (as it usually happens every friday), sort those by most popular films (i do something similar with my upcoming games lists)

also, maybe rename the title, so its just 'New North American Releases' or something to that affect. IMDB Coming Soon's sounds a bit wonky.

p.s. also drop that country name. try to stick to only north american release dates. seeing (UK) and (australia) is confusing, as its also being released in US at same time. IMDB is a bit weird in how it displays first country of release.

basically, i suggest sticking to north american release dates, and let others make australian or uk release date lists.

sasaki, the images for trailers aren't working.

link it (and use) listal's trailer, not IMDB's trailer. I dont think IMDB support bandwith hijacking.

on the left side, below the actors list, for each movie. MOST new ones have trailers.

you can also look here:
www.listal.com/movies/trailers

Tom is uploading tons of high-def trailers. No need to bother with IMDB trailers :)
ANBU Sasaki 17 years, 2 months ago at Apr 11 20:27 -
OK. I'll update this post when I edited the list.
UPDATED New Releases in N.A. list, Prelude.
