Description The American Film Institute (AFI) announced that the 10th installment of their Emmy Award-winning AFI 100 Years... series would be the updated version of 100 Years… 100 Movies. The original list was first unveiled in 1998. This is the new 2007 list of 100 Best American Films. Some notable winners (and losers) in the list are: - Godfather edged out Casablanca for #2 spot - Raging Bull climbed up 20 spots to #4 - Vertigo jumped 52 positions to #9 - City Lights jumped 65 spots to #11 - The Searchers is now #12, moving up a whopping 84 spots - The General is the highest rated new addition to the list, at #18 - Doctor Zhivago, which used to be #39, is no longer on the list - Dr. Strangelove dropped 13 spots (shame on AFI) - Shane unjustifiably climbed 24 positions - LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring debuts at #50 - Shawshank is finally on the list, after being snubbed from it in 1997, but at an unacceptable #72 spot - Other notable additions to the list are Spartacus, Titanic, Saving Private Ryan, 12 Angry Men, Sixth Sense, Blade Runner, and In Heat of the Night - I have no idea how Toy Story, Sophie's Choice, Swing Time and Do The Right Thing got on the 2007, especially at the expense of these films that got knocked off the list: Fargo, Amadeus, Zhivago, Frankenstein, The Third Man, Rebel Without a Cause, or All Quiet on the Western Front Overall, I'm NOT a fan of this new revised list, so do check out my original AFI 100 best movies list as well.
