Description: Villain is a 1971 gangster film directed by Michael Tuchner and starring Richard Burton, Ian McShane, Nigel Davenport and Donald Sinden. It is based on James Barlow's 1968 novel The Burden of Proof. This was first feature for the director, Michael Tuchner, who had only worked in television. In a growing trend for movies of the same era and genre (Get Carter, A Clockwork Orange, The French Connection for example) some of the violence is quite graphic especially during the heist and foreshadows several 1970s cop TV shows such as The Sweeney, Target and Special Branch. ... The Good & The Bad - Movies Watched In 2017 (472 movies items)

"A forgotten Brit gangster movie largely due to the fact that Michael Caine's Get Carter came out in the same year. Richard Burton plays a nasty and violent piece of work by the name of Vic Dakin (supposedly based on Reggie Kray). Burton tries his best at perfecting a cockney accent but can often be seen fumbling through his lines. Good use of location filming in London itself and the now sadly demolished West Pier at Brighton. Burton does well as the mother loving homosexual psychopath and there"
