“Since this movie was recently added to the book โ1001 Movies You Must See Before You Dieโ, I was really eager to check it out. To be honest, Iโm pretty sure that it will be one of these movies that they add every year but which end up being removed directly the year after or at least very soon. "This movie was really good until the CGI bedsheet started flying around. The movie is a slow one but it was still intersting enough to not bore you out of it. The setting was really great: a apartment building in Teheran during the war in 80's. "
"Focusing on a mother and daughter besieged by forces both worldly and otherwise in a Tehran apartment block, Under the Shadow presents a gripping portrait of an independently spirited woman shackled by sharia law who becomes more scared of the demonic forces tormenting her daughter than of the lashes threatened by her rulers or of fire falling from the sky. Babak Anvari delivers one hell of a debut film, ratcheting up the intensity to the point I was riveted to my seat. I highly recommend this one, especially if you're into suspenseful horror movies. "13/1/17 Superb horror drama set during the Iran-Iraq war and centring on a mother and her daughter trapped in a building that maybe haunted. Incredibly creepy which is effective in its chills while still being intelligent in its dealings with the emotions and horrors of the war around them. Highly recommended."
"The first ever horror movie from Iran and what a belter it is too. A woman and her young child live alone in an apartment in Tehran during the latter years of the Iran-Iraq War when the Iraqi regime were systematically firing missiles into the middle of large populated urban areas. Before long the bombs come crashing around them and just as this starts happening a strange malevolent supernatural force enters their home and begins to terrorise them also. It's a wonderful claustrophobic apartment"
