"First viewing - Feb. 10th Netflix I admire & respect the craft & talent poured into this film, & overall I can understand why so many people sing its praises. It recalled There Will Be Blood at times, as Phil feels like a descendant of Daniel Plainview. It looks great & they've done an excellent job of capturing the time period. And yet I never fully connected with it. Maybe that means I should watch it again down the road, but for now I think it's just fine."
" So many scenes started off interesting and then died. The final few scenes were maybe the only ones. This was a character study movie but I didn't like any of the characters. Otherwise the production quality was strong all around. Cumberbatch acting was the highlight of the movie. Director: Jane Campion Her 8th movie My 3rd movie watched from the director Added to Lists: Top Ten Performances - Benedict Cumberbatch __________ Location: Montana, USA"
"FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★★½ NOTES: First time watching Netflix’s rainbow logo on celluloid. Surprisingly very dusty and on a couple of occasions (including the scene where Phil takes Peter away from Rose) messy for such a fresh print – as it should be. Might be the best that Arri Alexa photography has looked on 35mm. DATE: February 19th 2022 CINEMA: The Prince Charles Cinema LOCATION: West End"

"1. The favorite. #1-#5 are locks. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. SAG nomination for ensemble, plus the best actor frontrunner bodes well here for the biopic. 7. Hasn't had that much heat, but it's been nominated everywhere it needs to be. Feels safe. 8. Exceedingly divisive (it just cracks 50% on RT, 49% on Metacritic), but it is "IMPORTANT!", with a large cast of Oscar winners; i.e. this is dug into Hollywood like a tick. It's looking strong. It is entirely possible, though, that this divisiveness"
" JANUARY 30, 2022 THE POWER OF THE DOG (2021, dir: Jane Campion) Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Kodi Smit-McPhee My rating: 8/10 Watched on NETFLIX"
"Notes: Well, even though this movie was apparently universally heralded, to be honest, I really struggled to connect with the damned thing. Sure, it was very well made and some of the scenes were just gorgeous to look at and, yet, somehow, it never grabbed me. However, there is no denying that the cast was really strong and I was above all impressed by Benedict Cumberbatch who probably gave here a career best performance. "
