"2.3 Silencen ensimmäiset parikymmentä minuuttia on tyylikästä elokuvausta, mutta sisällöllisesti elokuva lähtee sulamaan hyvin pian. Lopulta elokuva alkaa pitämään katsojaakin tyhmänä ja selittelee tapahtumiaan niin, ettei mitään viitsitä jättää tulkinnanvaraiseksi. Kulttuurien törmäämisen käsittely on puolestaan taas ihan kivasti toteutettu ja harvakseltaan näytetty väkivalta tuntuu ihan luissa ja ytimissä asti, mutta valitettavasti päälimmäiset tunteet Silencesta j"
"27 January. In ancient Japan, two Portuguese priests brave the inquisition to teach Christianity, and face moral difficulties as their followers suffer torture and eventual death. Andrew Garfield shines in his role and the movie is directed by Martin Scorsese. The problem is that once the Grand Inquisitor talks, its hard not to find him obnoxiously funny--like a badly dubbed villain in Chinese movies, plus some of the Japanese actors are a bit hammy, they taint this very serious movie."
" "I pray but I am lost. Am I just praying to silence?" The one thing that really bothered me is that Garfield, Driver and Neeson played Portuguese people, and they don't even speak portuguese. Other than that I couldn't find any flaws in this movie. Martin Scorsese is a movie genius. This movie should won Oscar for cinematography, the level of detail is remarkable."
"And the Nominees are... *Greig Fraser- Lion *James Laxton- Moonlight *Rodrigo Prieto- Silence *Linus Sandgren- La La Land *Bradford Young- Arrival And the Oscar goes to... Despite it's shocking loss at the ASC awards, I'm still sticking with Snadgren's work. The long takes, pastel coloring and lighting tricks check off boxes that a winner for this category usually needs. It's no lock though; the ASC went for a surprise and picked Fraser's work on Lion, and the oscars could certainly follow "
" Cast : Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, Liam Neeson What was it about? In the 17th century two Jesuit priests face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and to spread the gospel of Christianity. First of all, even though Scorsese had announced that he will direct this movie, he kept pushing it indefinitely to release something else and, when it seemed that he would finally get it done, I had the feeling that it was partially because he was contractually obligated and also to finally getting done with it. On top of that, it wasn't exactly a huge critical success when it was released so, to be honest, I had lowered my expectations and I thought it might turn out to be a minor effort for this great master. Well, even though it was definitely one of his least accessible movies, the damned thing was actually quite spellbindi” read more

" Familiar Actors: Andrew Garfield Adam Driver Liam Neeson Tadanobu Asano and Ciarán Hinds True Rating: 8.3/10 My Review: Silence Review"
"A pair of Portuguese Catholic priests go to Japan to determine the fate of their former mentor. Instead they mostly administer to a small villages of faithful Japanese Christians. This they must do in secret as the Japanese authorities have cracked down hard on those found to be practising in an effort to stamp out the 'foreign cancer'. Thus sets the scene for Andrew Garfield's Padre's faith to be severely tested. Despite the interesting story which sees many people suffer and go through hell "
“Notes:
*We play this at my theater so I have the chance to go see it.
*The cast is an interesting one except for Ciaran Hinds who I just can't stand lol.
*This is a Martin Scorsese film so I expect good things to happen.
*I have heard some people don't like it though, but then again people these days want constant action.
*This is co-written by Jay Cocks who also wrote on Gangs of New York with Scorsese.
*Apparently Japan had adapted the book this is based on in 1971 which I never knew until now.
*Anyways let's see if this is a winner or not.
Pros:
*The story is very interesting itself.
*The acting was quite excellent as well.
*You can tell that this was more about telling the stor” read more
