Pacific Rim: Uprising update feed
“Even though 'Pacific Rim' had a great concept and one of the most interesting directors at work nowadays, it turned out to be rather underwhelming and I was actually rather surprised that they still went for a sequel. As I expected, this sequel went by very quickly without making much waves at the box-office so I think we are pretty much done with this franchise. This time, Del Toro didn't even direct the damned thing so it was even less inspired and the story was just so convoluted. I mean, there were only a few Kaijus and they showed up only in the 3rd act which was also rather disappointing. The only positive thing was that John Boyega was just really charismatic and managed single-handedly to make the whole thing at least watchable but it wasn't enough, I'm afraid. "Another film I actually kind of liked in a guilty pleasure sort of way. But the fact remains this film really jumps the shark. Particularly with Charlie Day. I found him annoying in the first Pacific Rim, but then they decided to go way overboard with him in ways I cannot even believed they attempted. That, and they killed off the female lead of the first movie without much thought or care that they did it. All that mattered is that we buy their products, and that's it. I kind of liked it "
"Movie: In Theaters (3D) Rating: Bad...? First thing out of the gate: 3D movies where a mistake. I'm sure I would have liked it more if we'd been smart and seen it in regular old 2D. I have to remind myself not to overhype the first film in retrospect, I'd enjoyed Pacific Rim but I remember thinking "that was good for what it was" when leaving the theater. That first film had lots of neat concepts and I loved many of the characters, and I'd watch it again in a heartbeat, but it never swept m"
"First viewing - April 2nd The kiddo & I both agreed that this sequel was nowhere near as good as the first film. I'd anticipated that from the moment del Toro handed the reins of the project over to other people, so thankfully my expectations weren't too high. The film delivered well enough on the battle scenes, and John Boyega does the best with what he's given, and these aspects made the film worth sitting through once. Hopefully if they decide to expand the series further they'll take better"
"The 2nd Pacific Rim movie is set 10 years after the Pan Pacific Defense Corps stopped the apocalypse. It has a brand new cast although there are cameos from some of the original actors. John Boyega takes the lead as John Pentecost, son of the famous hero Stacker Pentecost who sacrificed his life to save the world. It's a story of Jaeger vs Jaeger as a rogue Jaeger causes massive destruction and when it is finally destroyed it doesn't have a human pilot inside but a Precursor but how can this be?"
"Ten years after the original and John Boyega stars as the son of Idris Elba's character, forced to join the Pan Pacific Defense Corp to train new pilots for the Jaegers only to find an evil within the corporation. Lacking in Guillermo del Toro's wonderment and affection for Japanese monster movies, this is a loud and destructive movie that lacks any real connection with the characters and relies on just robots fighting monsters and that just isn't enough."
