" 7 - Great photography, acting, music... It is a realistic historical film and therefore it is a bit slow too. In case you were wondering, yes, this is the film where Gary Oldman is unrecognizable and I do need some sort of explanation."

"January 23rd Directed by: Joe Wright So the Academy Award nominees are out and here's your typical historical biopic. If you've seen one of these, you've seen them all. Eccentric individual is put in a position where all of their peers and superiors doubt them but they're proven wrong in the end. But not just that, somehow every film like this one feels exactly the same, go watch The Good Shepherd from 2006 and you'll feel like you're watching the same movie. All that said, the actual subject "

"1.Gary Oldman- Darkest HourThe frontrunner (as long as he takes the SAG prize). 2.Timothรฉe Chalamet- Call Me by Your NameThe most possible spoiler. If he wins the SAG award (because he's not winning BAFTA), then he may be able to swing it. 3.Daniel Day-Lewis- Phantom ThreadHe missed a SAG nomination, but there are two things to consider there; #1, it's highly likely that screeners weren't sent out in time, and #2, this is fuckin' Daniel Day-Lewis, he's still as respected as they come and it "
"Joe Wright's film about the early days of Winston Churchill's leadership in 1940 is boosted by an extraordinary performance by Gary Oldman. However, the film is over-directed and crammed with cliches which distract from the story. An over-bearing soundtrack, misuse of lighting and scenes that become laughable, it's held together by the performances, especially Oldman who deserves a better film."

It was difficult to understand Churchill at a number of points, which I get that he talked like that, but it makes it difficult to understand what is going on. “An interesting tale of Churchill becoming Prime Minister and his securing of his position within the first month. It was difficult to understand Churchill at a number of points, which I get that he talked like that, but it makes it difficult to understand what is going on. Also, the movie wanders at points, focusing on characters that don't really have a role in the movie, like his assistant. Also, too much focus is put on times when nothing is happening, and not enough on significant things, like when people are changing their mind about things for unknown reasons.
Still, it was worth a watch for the history. The tone was great, and the speeches powerful and well done. 6/10” read more
