Control (2007)

8.8 - I just discovered that I am into b&w movies now and this biographical movie is beautifully well-done. Sam Riley is excellent and looks exactly like Curtis which makes it feel even more real and transparent. I connected with the movie as a whole as well as with Joy Division music.

8.6 - I still don't know why I haven't seen this film earlier. It was pleasently surprising to see how well done everything seemed to fit in the plot. The acting is what you could expect from great actors and the photography is very appealing. Cool.

Talk to Her (2002)

8.4 - My love for the amazing and talented Pedro Almodovar is endless. I knew it from the very beginning that it was going to be great and it didn't disappointed me. He always has something unique to say and his charactertic naturality to communicate what he wants to say always leaves me in awe. The actors are on the level of the director so I don't have nothing else to add.

Volver (2006)

8.4 - I am not really a fan of Penelope Cruz performances but this one wasn't bad at all. It may be a bit predictable after half the movie but it's still as good and I just love Pedro Almodovar so this goes on top.

Almost Famous (2000)

8.3 - I genuinely thought this movie was going to suck just looking at the title and the poster. Teenage garbage, I thought. Oh was I wrong... Yes, it may be a teenagers movie but it doesn't need to be because it holds so much more than that. It has spirit and personality. The main character is perfect but the best thing here is, undoubtedly, Frances McDormand. I love her and her character. The movie is awesome. The plot 'rocks' and the music is on point too. I would defenitely recommend if you like to know more about the music industry or if you are interested in music in general.

Shame (2011)

8.3 - It touched my soul. There's a fragility in the characters that you can't help but feel sorry and hopeful at the same time for them. The performances are award worhty and also the soundtrack was marvellous too. The photography was on point as well. I was overall very satisfied with this film and I would surely watch it again in the future.

8 - I loved the message of this film and the way it is directed. Streep and Hanks make an exquisite combo and all the acting involved it's on point. The music and photography are on the same level as the rest.

The Others (2001)

7.8 - Who doesn't love a good plot twist? At the end I kind of was somehow expecting it but I loved the idea of the living and the dead. The tension was perfectly built up and the acting was pretty good as well. The photography was specially nice and the music was on point. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is into thrillers just like me.
Helen's rating:

Becoming Jane (2007)

7.4 - I am obsessed with James McAvoy and the character fits him very well. The customes are pretty good but the best thing is the music and the dialogues. The plot is based on Jane Austen life so it was very interesting too.

Blue Is The Warmest Color (2013)

6.5 - I loved Lรฉa Seydoux and Adele Exarchopoulos exquisite performance. It is a very emotional and highly intimate film about the life of a young women who falls in love with someone of the same sex. While doing so, she will have to face new challenges and experiences that will shape her and help her discover more about love and herself. Overall, the film is pretty good and worth watching but what turns it down a bit is the 3h duration. Some scenes take too long, way much more than necessary and some even don't add anything to the plot and are just plain boring. Those empty and repetitive scenes annoyed me as those made the movie dull and less attractive.
Helen's rating:

Darkest Hour (2017)

7 - Great photography, acting, music... It is a realistic historical film and therefore it is a bit slow too. In case you were wondering, yes, this is the film where Gary Oldman is unrecognizable and I do need some sort of explanation.
Helen's rating:

The Exception (2016)

6.4 - Why did I decided to watch this movie? The answer is boredom, history and Lily James. Was it worth it? It was not bad but not great either. It was just enjoyable when there's nothing better to do and you like 'romantic' historical movies.
Helen's rating:

Red Sparrow (2018)

6.3 - I really dig spy movies and this one was just... average. However, Jennifer Lawrence's performance was pretty good and Charlotte Rampling was in it too. In my opinion, it is quite predictable but it's still enjoyable if you are into this type of movies.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018)

6.3 - The only reason why I decided to watch this movie was because Dylan O'Brien and Kaya Scodelario. I was surprised that it wasn't as bad as I expected and the plot turned out to be quite entertaining. I have to say that I got asleep in the previous movie but I was awake the whole time in this one which is something positive right? I don't what was it really because I don't truly remember much about the previous one but I do remember that I liked the first one. Despite the fact that I am not a fan of this film series, I would recommend it for teenagers out there who like dystopian themed movies like me. It has quality.
Helen's rating:

Holy Camp! (2017)

5 - I guess I expected something else and I was quite disappointed at how simple and predictable everything was. There is no clear character development and the lines lack originality. The events that go through the films I find them to be mostly boring and the accurate photography can't make it up for it.
Edit: I found out that the purpose of the movie was to follow your dreams not matter how crazy they seem to be for others, always follow your heart. I like it and agree with it but did it had to take a whole movie to prove that? I'm sorry but the plot was weak... Good message though...
