Video Games I Think Should Be Adapted Into Movies

Movie list created by sup3rboi Avatar

Sort by: Showing 14 items
Decade: Rating: List Type:
Final Fantasy
Now, I realize that there have been a few animated films for this franchise; but I want to see someone make an epic live-action trilogy somewhat in the vein of "Lord of the Rings". I don't necessarily need them to adapt any particular game, but it should feel like a Final Fantasy film; right down to the Chocobo.

Mega Man - Famicom and NES
I think Mega Man could have the potential to be a successful live-action film series, if done right. My idea would be to give Mega Man, who is a humanoid robot, the appearance of a young 20-something year old adult and give the movies a style/quality befitting a PG-13 rating.

Call of Duty - PC Games
Call of Duty should be one of the easiest games to adapt, since they're pretty much just fictionalized retellings of battles and military operations that really happened. The first 3 or 4 games all take place during WWII and are told from multiple campaigns from various countries. Each movie could be an expansion of a single campaign. I think the trick would be how to make this feel like a video game movie worthy of being on the big screen, and not some generic war film with the Call of Duty name slapped on the front just to sell a ticket.

Metroid - Famicom and NES
This has the potential to be a great female-lead action sci-fi film, and if it's successful it could be expanded into a franchise.
Fatal Frame
It did get a Japanese live-action adaptation in 2015, but I would love to see Fatal Frame adapted for an American audience as well... but, I fear Hollywood (with their love for white-washing) wouldn't do it right. I would want a Fatal Frame movie to maintain those elements of Japanese culture.

Duck Hunt - Famicom and NES
I would keep this one animated.

Did anyone ever see those old cartoon episodes like Pink Panther, Looney Tunes, or Tom & Jerry that involved a human character going hunting with his dog and everything going wrong for the hunter? Well, this would be a feature length version of one of those episodes. I picture the hunter having so much trouble killing the ducks that the hunt grows into an all out war.

Catherine - PlayStation 3
This could be a great live-action dark comedy about a lifelong bachelor who lacks ambition and doesn't want to deal with adult life such as marriage. He meets a young woman named Catherine, sleeps with her, and who turns out to be a succubus; but is she real or just a manifestation of the fears he has about his relationship with a former classmate?

Dead Space - PC Games
This franchise does have a couple of animated films under it's belt, but I think we could use a good live-action sci-fi survival horror film series. Dark and gritty similar to Alien.

Thief - PC Games
Just for the Victorian/Gothic/Steam-Punk style alone, I'd like to see this game adapted into a live-action movie, though I'd worry that it may turn out like the Assassin's Creed movie.

Destroy All Humans! - PlayStation 2
Keep it animated. A comedy about an alien who comes to Earth to rescue one of his own, who is being held in Area 42 (the game's version of Area 51), and the chaos that ensues as the government attempts to stop him while trying to keep the existence of aliens secret from the general public.

Maniac Mansion - PC Games
Since Disney owns LucasFilms, I imagine they probably also have the theatrical rights to other games under the LucasFilm brand like Maniac Mansion.

The Breakfast Club meets B-movie horror. A group of friends enter the mansion of Dr. Fred Edison, his wife Nurse Edna, and their son Weird Ed (who've all been affected by a meteor that crashed nearby 20 years earlier) to rescue a friend who's been abducted for experimentation by the mad scientist.

LucasFilms has more to offer than just Star Wars & Indiana Jones, so give us more.
A story in which a special forces team is sent into a war torn land to contain a supernatural phenomenon in the form of a telepathic little girl who has a mental hold on the people and soldiers in the area.

I think this has potential as a theatrical film.

Just like Final Fantasy, or I suppose any other RPG, I think The Elder Scrolls has the potential to be a huge film franchise.

Myst - PC Games
An unnamed Stranger finds a book and is magically teleported to a mysterious island where he must uncover it's secrets and find his way back to his own world.

It'd be interesting to see how a game in which you're playing in first-person mode and all you do is explore and solve puzzles would translate into a film. Would it fall into the genre of drama? Or would they try to incorporate elements that weren't in the game to make it a more "theatrical" adventure?

Despite failure after failure of these Video Game movies, Hollywood continues to try; with the next one coming out in a couple of months. You would think that someone would eventually make one that's better than Mortal Kombat. I mean, the bar for success hasn't been set very high.

So, here is my list of Video Games that I would like to see get made into a movie... someday.
