Boy A (2008)
This was a very good movie. it exceeded my expectations for sure. Andrew Garfield was great in this one. He was sympathetic, despite his mistake in the past.

Fanboys (2009)
I saw this movie recently and it has become one of my favorites. This movie is hilarious and even slightly heartwarming at times.
Hobbit's rating:

One of the best movies of 2009. I loved the book as a child, so I went in thinking it was going to be some artsy mess, but it really exceeded my expectations.
Hobbit's rating:

December Boys (2007)
I watched this late at night, expecting to finally get some sleep after a long day. But I ended up watching it to the end. Surprisingly good, and Daniel Radcliffe was great.
Hobbit's rating:

The Fifth Element (1997)
One of my old favorites. I always get angry when I hear that people haven't seen it. I'd recommend it to anyone. One of the things about it, though, is that you shouldn't just think of it as a mindless action flick.
Hobbit's rating:

I watched this movie on netflix, not sure of what to expect, but it was awesome. It's a perfect deconstruction of the slasher genre. Another I'd recommend to anyone.
Hobbit's rating:

Dance of the Dead (2008)
I watched this one on demand, and it was great. I still can't believe it didn't get much attention.
Hobbit's rating:

Idiocracy (2007)
Great, hysterical, and entirely underrated. More people need to know how great this movie is.
Hobbit's rating:

Chasing Amy (1997)
This one is definitely not for everyone. but it is one of the better Kevin Smith movies.
Hobbit's rating:

Kissing Jessica Stein (2002)
This movie is funny, adorable, and genuinely good, and it doesn't try too hard to be preachy. One if the best scenes in the movie involves Jessica and her mother, and that is all I will say, if you want to know what I mean, just watch this movie.
Note:
I also love it when "marinate" is used as a verb.

Hobbit's rating:

Hot Rod (2007)
This movie was hilarious, and it did not get the attention it deserved. Two words "Cool beans".
Hobbit's rating:

Once you look past the fact that it's a Michael Bay movie, it's actually not bad.
Hobbit's rating:

This movie is hilarious. It is a perfect parody of blaxploitation films. There are boom mics visible, bad jump cuts, obvious stunt doubles, and it's shot to look like it was made in the early 70s. This movie is amazing, and it had me laughing the entire time.
Hobbit's rating:

This is a mockumentary about what it would be like if the south won the civil war. The interviews and commercials are very believable, and it is comedy gold. This is perfect political satire.
Hobbit's rating:

I watched this movie on HBO and absolutely loved it. It's really funny and charming, plus it has a great message.
Hobbit's rating:

Teeth (2008)
I'm not gonna trick people into seeing this movie by not saying what it's about. So, here it is; this movie is about a girl discovering that her vagina has teeth. She pretty much comes to the realization in one of the worst ways imaginable, but I'll spare the details by saying that people should see this movie.
Hobbit's rating:

Josie and the Pussycats (2001)
This is really sort of a guilty pleasure, but it's a great movie with a pretty good soundtrack, plus it's hilarious. Tara Reid is ridiculously funny, and the line about puppies just kills me every time because of her reaction. This is comedy gold.
Hobbit's rating:

Ghost Town (2008)
Ricky Gervais is brilliant, but especially in this role. I realize that a lot of people hated this movie, but I'm not one of them. I think it was great and it deserves a second chance.
Hobbit's rating:

Defending Your Life (1991)
This is a great movie. Meryl Streep gives a really good performance, and I loved the concept of limbo being part of a bureaucracy. The court scenes are pretty good, and it manages to be really funny compared to other movies about the afterlife.
Hobbit's rating:

Stranger Than Fiction (2006)
This was a really great movie, and no one recognized that. It practically vanished off of the face of the planet after the DVD release. I love this movie, Will Ferrel is great in it, as is Emma Thompson. I love the story, and I love the characters. It's sad that this was overlooked.
Hobbit's rating:

Death to Smoochy (2002)
This is one of the only movies starring Edward Norton that I actually like. Plus, it has actors I love: Danny DeVito, Jon Stewart, and Catherine Keener especially. I thought this was great, original and funny, yet I hear it being bashed by critics, left and right.
