I couldn't explain this movie to myself, let alone to someone else. But, it was clear to me by the actions of the two main characters, that they did love each other at some points during the film... or was it merely obsession? Sometimes, the two can overlap.

Actually, Hoops did a lot to help Cassandra. When he first meets her, he helps her escape from some mad bikers. He should have learned immediately she'd be a lot of trouble.

(I mean nihilism in terms of definition number 4a: an extreme form of skepticism: the denial of all real existence or the possibility of an objective basis for truth.)

This is definitely not the feel good movie of the summer. And I'm starting to think by my choices that I don't watch many romantic movies.

Pretty messed up if you think about it. His love for Elaine definitely earned him a lot of enemies.

This 80's high school romance story really doesn't play out the way a lot of them did. I didn't see this one until I was grown up, and I like it more than some of the other 80's young adult movies I have seen.

What Fernand did:
Frame Edmond, steal his fiancee, ruin his life

The Fernand of this movie version is a pretty bad dude. He took everything he could from his best friend Edmond, and he didn't even cherish the things he stole.

What Edmond did:
Re-direct Fernand's money, steal his wife, ruin his life

Seems kind of fitting, considering the terrible things Edmond had to endure. But, his love for Mercedes, plus a healthy dose of vengeance kept him focused.

In terms of the most romantic things ever done, this has to rank near the top. It's not every day an angel would want a mortal life, just for a girl.
