Memento (2000)
A film that is showed to us backwards. The beginning (or the ending?) is the real shock. In 5 years from this film, the director would make come true the dreams of every die hard bat-fan.

It's the first Lord of the Rings. Even for those who knew the book forwards and backwards before, watching this film is an unique experience, everything is new, all the characters come to life in such a perfect way. What else can I say?
diabolical dr voodoo's rating:
Shrek-tastic! Shrek is grumpy, ugly, has a terrible temper, no friends and he must smell bad too. Yet, everybody loves him, myself included. Eddie Murphy as the Donkey steals every scene he's in.

28 Days Later (2003)
At last! A zombie film worthy watching after so many years. Danny Boyle clearly homages Romero in this one. Act 1 is Night of the Living Dead, act 2 is Dawn of the Dead and act 3 is Day of the Dead. It owes nothing at all to the greatest classics of the genre.
diabolical dr voodoo's rating:
Ingmar Bergman's last roar. The final chapter in a brilliant career (that covered almost 60 years). The sequel of Scenes of a Wedding, is no less than any of his greatest works.

X2: X-Men United (2003)
Jackman is even better as Wolverine than he was on the original. The invasion of the mansion is the highest point. A great villain played by the extraordinary Brian Cox.

Closer (2004)
The homage of a great director to another. Mike Nichols to Ingmar Bergman. Bitter dialogs shot mercilessly like a machine gun, by equally bitter men and women. Four memorable characters played by four great actors. If this film had a less talented director or less talented actors, it would be the drag of the century. Thankfully is not like that at all.

Dawn of the Dead (2004)
A great remake, almost as good as the original (which is a masterpeice not only inside the genre). The chemistry is perfect between the entire cast, and I caught myself really caring about what was going to happen to Andy - the man cornered in the weapons store.
diabolical dr voodoo's rating:
Jim Carrey can surprise, he's not only a great comedian, but he can also do drama as well as (or even better) he does comedy. Kate Winslet is also in one of her best moments.
diabolical dr voodoo's rating:
Another great part by one of the best actors nowadays, Javier Bardém.
diabolical dr voodoo's rating:
Clint Eastwood directing really can surprise, releasing one work of art right after another (Mystic River). Difficult to say which is best. Eastwood's acting here is no less. Morgan Freeman and Hillary Swank complete the cast of this incrediblly touching film, with one of the best and most unexpected twists in the end.

Shrek 2 (2004)
Shrek and Donkey do it again! And this time with the help of the sad little eyes of Puss-in-Boots.
diabolical dr voodoo's rating:
Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Spider-Man versus Doc Ock. It's the equivalent of Batman versus the Joker. The best of the trilogy.
The highlight with the subway scene.

Downfall (2005)
Bruno Ganz is brilliant as Adolf Hitler. Such a dangerous part to be played, done so well by one of the greatest German actors.
On a side note, it's good to hear Hitler speaking German instead of English, like so many films did. It gives even more authenticity to this already flawless film.

Batman Begins (2005)
The wet dream of every bat-fan. The cliffhanger ending is as good as Han Solo frozen or Doc Brown having to send Marty MacFly back to the old west.
diabolical dr voodoo's rating:
Very atypical of Spielberg. And that's not bad at all. Although he's one of my favorite directors, over the years, the 'Spielberg Formula' was kind of predictable. But it's nowhere near this film.
diabolical dr voodoo's rating:
James Bond - Casino Royale (2006)
The best Bond film since the 1960s. Since From Russia With Love, to be more exact. Craig is finally an actor who could threaten the place that Sean Connery has since the beginning as the best James Bond.

Martin Scorsese's recognition by the Academy came exactly 30 years later than it should've originally came (Taxi Driver is from 1976), but it came to an equally great, equally violent and equally powerful film.
In my humble opinion, the number 1 film of the decade, so far.

diabolical dr voodoo's rating:
As magical as The Lord of the Rings and as violent as Irreversible. A wonderful film to put together such different styles and succeed. Also one of the top films of the decade.

X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
The best in a great trilogy. Some xiite fans might bitch about this one, because of the mutant "cure" and the deaths of Cyclops, Professor X and Jean but I stand by it, the film takes some bold steps and it is surprising, nobody can deny.
Also Beast, one of my favorite X-Men, finally appears and kicks a lot of ass, which is awesome.
I wish there was a direct sequel to this one, I would sure love to watch it.
