War Horse (2011)
Great movie. Although it was basically E.T. with a horse, it was still good. It was great to see the battle sequences on the big screen.

Pretty scary movie. Kind of weird seeing Daniel Radcliffe in something other than Harry Potter. But he was pretty good in it. You don't really need to see it on the big screen though, you can wait for the DVD if you want to see it.

The Hunger Games (2012)
It was alright. I liked the book better. The only things I didn't like about it was that it was very rushed, also the shaky camera, close up action scenes annoyed me. But, besides that, it was alright.

The Avengers (2012)
I saw this movie in theaters twice, in 3D and 2D. The 3D looked pretty cool, but it definitely did not add anything to the movie. Of course, same goes for pretty much every 3D movie.

Men in Black 3 (2012)
This movie was awesome! I was surprised, it's actually better than the first one! It was hilarious and a great finale to the Men in Black series.

Prometheus (2012)
Incredible, Ridley Scott's awesome return to the Alien franchise. This movie looked amazing, I'm glad I saw it on the big screen. I kinda wished I had seen it in 3D, but I know that if I did see it in 3D I probably wouldn't remember the 3D after a week.

Not as good as the first two, but it was ok. My main beef with it was that it moved way too quickly, it didn't stay in one scene for more than 5 minutes. it's movies like this that are the reason behind ADHD in kids today.

Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)
What a shitty movie. Half the acting was half-assed, and the other half was completely over the top. It had more holes that Swiss cheese and many of the main plot points made absolutely no sense at all. It looked pretty good, but that's it. No wait, it didn't look that good at all, I mean it had a style, but it was a dark and rainy style, it was dull. Fuck this movie.

Brave (2012)
The great thing about PIXAR movies is that they make me feel like a kid again. The bad thing about them is that kids go to see them. The theater was packed with them. One of my earliest memories is going to see Toy Story 2 in theaters. PIXAR has had such a big impact on my life. It was actually really weird, as soon as the movie started, I started to tear up. Funny how movies can have such a strong connection with us. Anyways, the movie was really good, as was the animation. PIXAR never fails to impress.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
I saw this movie 4 times in theaters. I haven't seen any other movie more than twice this year. That being said...
It just wasn't as good as the original. The first half was great, a cool, original look at Spider-man's origins. Then the second half, I don't know what happened. That Indian guy working for Norman Osborne disappeared, Gwen found out he was Spider-man and well, the thing is, ugh, I'm gonna go on a rant here so read at your own risk. The Sam Raimi Spider-man ended with Peter telling Mary Jane that they couldn't be together. But MJ didn't know he was Spider-man, so she just thought he didn't want to be with her. In the new movie, Gwen knows that he is Spider-man she even says "He (my dead father) told you to stay away from me, didn't he?", since she knows this, she has no right to be mad at him. Plus it doesn't matter because they end up together anyways. Anyways, not a terrible film, but don't fix what ain't broken.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Ah man, now I know what people felt like when the Star Wars movies came out. What a fantastic end to a fantastic trilogy. At first I thought it was moving kind of odd, I didn't really think it was working, but again, like in Batman Begins, once the main plot set in, it movie was great. Actually, there were a lot of similarities between this movie and Batman Begins. Bane was awesome, we got to see some mano y mano stuff with Bane and Batman which has been something we haven't been able to see in the first two movies.

Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012)
This movie was pretty bad. Not as bad as the last one, but still pretty bad. I don't know why the Hell Nikki Minaj and Drake were in it. It had some funny moments though, none of them happened during the stupid ass subplot with Manny's wife and daughter. Sid the sloth is the only funny thing about this movie.

The Lorax (2012)
This movie was just like Thneedville, totally plastic. The characters were plastic, the songs were plastic, the jokes were plastic (I didn't laugh once), it all looked plastic. It didn't even feel like a Dr. Seuss movie. Take a look at a movie like Horton Hears a Who, it feels like a Dr. Seuss movie, the Who's use crazy Seuss like gadgets, the jungle has Seuss like plants. This movie is bad and it should feel bad. It fools people into thinking it has heart with its environmental message, but then it exploits its young audience with cute animals, singing fish, songs that all sound the same and an unnecessary love plot. It also seemed to have an odd religious theme. The Lorax clearly is a magical being but doesn't use his powers, telling the Once-Ler that "It doesn't work that way", it was very strange. I could go on longer, but I wont. Pros? Well, the animation was great, and Ed Helms was pretty good as the Once-Ler. The "Bad" song was okay. Overall, It's a dumb, forgettable movie for little babies.
OK, one last thing. Does Betty White have to be in every movie or TV show as an unconventional grandma? Fuck, give it a rest.

This movie was better than I expected it to be. It wasn't amazing, but it was cute. Good for a casual watch.

ParaNorman (2012)
This movie was great. Not as good as Coraline, but it was still very entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Trouble with the Curve (2012)
This movie was pretty good. I'm a huge fan of Clint Eastwood and I was glad to see him embracing the humor of his age, not too much of course. The rest of the cast is great too. Clint and Amy Adams have great father/daughter chemistry. I haven't seen every movie this year (who has?), but I think that this might be the feel good movie of the year.
James B.'s rating:

Looper (2012)
It's great that there are still original movies like this coming out. And this was probably the best movie I've seen all year. Full of great suspense, and I'm sure it will live on as one of the great sci-fi films.

Frankenweenie (2012)
I went in expecting another shitty, lifeless, Tim Burton movie. But just like Sparky, Burton seems to have resurrected the heart that was present in his first few movies, but soon took a back seat to a bankable cliche. I was really surprised at how good it was. I mean it seemed like a movie Tim Burton actually wanted to make for reasons other than money. All the classic horror movie references, I think he put some heart into that. Is this the return of early-nineties Tim Burton? It may be too soon to tell, but here's hoping. Oh yeah, as per usual, the 3D was completely unnecessary.
