My DS Games

Sort by: Showing 30 items
Rating: List Type:
People who added this item 19 Average listal rating (6 ratings) 5.7 IMDB Rating 0
Genre: RPG
Company: Atlus
ESRB: E

Description: "Hie to the ocean with your party to uncover the secret of why half of the once vibrant, technologically advanced city of Armoroad sank below the waves! Customize your party members down to their class, sub-class, and skill set to take on the adventure your way."
Playability: A bit harder, but several things have also been added to make it easier. Definitely worth playing if you've played the second (haven't played the first so I'm not sure about that one.
Ease of Save: Saves just like the previous game.
Other comments: Definitely one of my favorite games at the moment. I love the new "auto trails" you can put down so that you don't have to slog through the same path every single time. Makes some of the repetitiveness less annoying. The other new feature is being able to go sailing. After several months with this game, I have to say I enjoy this even better than the second. The addition of the auto-trail and the warterways of the world, it just makes the game even more enjoyable. On the other hand, it's also much harder because of that. I still haven't gotten more than a little past the first tier of the dungeon.

Style Savvy - Nintendo DS
Genre: Tycoon
Company: Nintendo
ESRB: E

Description: "Show off your style as the owner of a chic boutique! Create outfits for yourself and your customers--the possibilities are endless! You can also visit the hair salon, the cosmetics store, and even your friends' boutiques!"
Playability: Very open-ended, even with the given "ending" there is, you can continue to play and run your shop.
Ease of Save: Once you've finished the basic tutorial for the game, you have two save-spots you can use--your home and your store, though if you're in the middle of a transaction, you're stuck until it's done.
Other comments: I ran across the help guide for this before I saw the game itself, and was intrigued, but it took me a while to buy the game itself. I'm glad I got it, though, despite my worries that it would be like the "imagine" series, which is meant for a younger audience. If you're into fashion at all, I highly recommend checking it out if you can.

Genre: RPG
Company:Atlus
ESRB: E

Description: "It is said that the first explorers to retrieve the Grail of Kings from the legendary floating palace will be rewarded with wealth and fame beyond imagining. Enter Lagaard and begin your journey to the clouds!"
Playability: A long-playing RPG, though it has plenty of must-level-up moments. You only get one party at a time, though it can have many characters in it. Starting another game erases the old one.
Ease of Save: To save fully, you have to go into town and rest, but there is a temp save while you're in the maze. It just won't take you back there if your characters die.
Other comments: Pros--mapping feature with many symbols you can use to mark things you've run across for quests, multiple character types to choose from, and a five-member party to play with for variability. Cons--often focuses too heavily on leveling up to be fun, and your characters max out after a while; also a bit of repetition in some quests, and FOES (the hardest badguys) tend to either be too easy or too hard for your characters, depending on their levels.

Color Cross - Nintendo DS
Genre: Puzzle
Company: ZOO
ESRB: E

Description: A series of colour-logic puzzles, along the same lines as Picross DS and Picross 3D.
Playability: As playable as the Picross games.
Ease of Save: Saves between puzzles.
Other comments: More picture logic puzzles are always good. After trying this out, I can definitely say that if you like Picross and/or logic puzzles, this is well worth getting. They've made it very easy to learn the system. Definitely worth checking out. Two more comments, now that I've played this a while--of the three painting logic games, this is easiest to learn and easiest to win.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 50 Average listal rating (22 ratings) 8.5 IMDB Rating 0
Picross DS - Nintendo DS
Genre: Puzzle
Company: G Touch
ESRB: E

Description: Based on a Japanese puzzle form using logic and numbers to "draw" a picture.
Playability: Very replayable. Even on the harder levels, you get hints and as many retries as you'd like. Far better in this form than pencil and paper.
Ease of Save: You can save any puzzle you want if you're in the middle of one you can't finish.
Other comments: Pros--hundreds of levels and each level has its own graphics, so you don't get bored of the graphics. Cons--the idea itself can be a little hard to learn, but overall, the game teaches the basics very well. Definitely more for logic-puzzle enthusiasts, and not for those who have trouble with that sort of game.

People who added this item 3 Average listal rating (3 ratings) 7.7 IMDB Rating 0
Desktop Tower Defense - Nintendo DS
Genre: Puzzle/Arcade
Company: THQ
ESRB: E

Description: A direct port of the internet flash game of the same name, the object is to keep the "creeps" that invade your maze from reaching the exit.
Playability: Extremely replayable. Even if you grow bored of it for a time, you can set it aside, and pick it up a different day, and it's enjoyable all over again. There are hundreds of challenges to choose from, as well as three difficulty settings, so there's something here for everyone.
Ease of Save: Autosaves scores, but you can't save a level you're on, so definitely not playable unless you have at least a few minutes to spare.
Other comments: Each piece in this, towers and creeps, are modifiable by both shape and colour, using a simple coloring system.

Picross 3D - Nintendo DS
Genre: Puzzle
Company: G Touch
ESRB: E

Description: "Break into the next dimension of mind-bending puzzles! Track the numbers to uncover the hidden shape! Beginners and Picross veterans alike will love this puzzle game that's easy to pick up, but hard to put down! Over 365 puzzles! That's more than a puzzle every day for a full year!"
Playability: Having played this for a while now, I quite like the flow of the game at the moment. The puzzles are replayable, though some are very simple, and the rest seem almost too hard.
Ease of Save: Saves from game to game.
Other comments: I liked the original because I loved those puzzles already, but this version is quite different from the two-D version. The puzzles increase in difficulty from almost too easy, to quite a while to solve. I have yet to come across a puzzle I haven't been able to solve yet.

Touchmaster 2 - Nintendo DS
Genre: Puzzle/Arcade/Card
Company: Midway
ESRB: E

Description: "Select from 20 brand-new strategy, action, puzzle, card and picture games that you can enjoy on the go. Play alone or compete head-to-head with an opponent. With its easy touch-screen controls and challenging game-play you'll be addicted in no time!"
Playability: Each game provided in the pack is easily replayable again and again.
Ease of Save: No save, just need to have time to finish a round.
Other comments: I haven't been through all the mini-games on this one yet, but I do like the new interface. The original game's interface was very basic, but this one allows for three separate save-games. The variety in the games seems a bit wider, too.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 9 Average listal rating (2 ratings) 5 IMDB Rating 0
Touchmaster - Nintendo DS
Genre: Puzzle/Arcade/Card
Company: Midway
ESRB: E

Description: "The arcade favorite TouchMaster is now on the go exclusively for Nintendo DS! Chose from 23 addictive games which all utilize the touchscreen. Play alone or with friends, compete in tournaments, or post your high scores to our server and check them on the TouchMaster website. TouchMaster is a great pick up and play game for everyone!"
Playability: Each game provided in the pack is easily replayable again and again.
Ease of Save: No save, just need to have time to finish a round.
Other comments: As with any game-set, everyone will find good games and bad ones in this, but there's enough variety in this to make it well worth buying.
Elfflame's rating:
Genre: Strategy
Company: Firaxis
ESRB: E

Description: "Lead your civilization from the dawn of man to the space age and beyond in an all-new Civilization created exclusively for the Nintendo DS. Go head to head with history's greatest leaders as you wage war, conduct diplomacy, discover new technologies and build the most powerful empire the world has ever known."
Playability: Good, though the games are so short, they all start to feel alike after a while. But easily regained after not playing for a while.
Ease of Save: Saveable at almost any point at almost any time.
Other comments: My best description of this game is Civ 1 combined with Civ 4. It's got a good percentage of the graphics from 4, but a much toned-down version of gameplay, particularly when it comes to improvements. My one complaint is that the games are so short--the number of possible discoveries has been cut in half, I think. Makes the gameplay a bit too simplistic.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 2 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 8 IMDB Rating 0
Populous DS [JP Import] - Nintendo DS
Genre: Strategy
Company: X Seed Games
ESRB: E

Description: "The legendary God-sim game is reborn, resplendent with powerful new elemental gods & demons, devastating new divine attacks, favorite classic maps plus all-new arenas and play modes.
Playability: Fairly replayable with all the different power-versions you can use against your enemy.
Ease of Save: I can't entirely remember if you can save during a level, but most don't take too long to complete.
Other comments: A good port of many of hte game play elements of Populous 1 and 2 to DS, with a few random extras thrown in for good measure. A fun game, particularly if you like god-games.

**Recommended**
Elfflame's rating:
Genre: Strategy
Company: Hudson
ESRB: E

Description: "Train. Battle. Slay the Demon God. Embark on a journey to discover the lost Ancient Fighting Arts of Westria Kingdom. Legend fortells of one hero who will rise, wield the powers of the lost Fighting Arts and destroy the bringer of death."
Playability: Enough character classes to make replaying at least once worthwhile. Different classes make the NPCs react a little differently.
Ease of Save: Savable anywhere, but when you load back up, you're always in town.
Other comments: One flaw I've noticed with this is that it doesn't use the stylus at all. If you're going to make a game for a system with special features, it seems kind of a waste if you don't use them. Graphics are fine. Conversations go on a bit long. Not great, but not horrible.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 32 Average listal rating (11 ratings) 7 IMDB Rating 0
The Sims 2: Castaway - Nintendo DS
Genre: Simulation
Company: EA
ESRB: E

Description: "Create a New Life on a Deserted Island. After washing ashore on an uncharted island, your Sims must craft articles for survival and unravel the island's mysteries. Will your Sims thrive--or look for the quickest escape home?"
Playability: Though you cannot get all of the objects until after you have finished the game by escaping the island, there is little point going back to the island unless you are the sort that has to collect every item in this sort of game.
Ease of Save: Savable at almost any point in the game, except for conversations and cut scenes.
Other comments: A great time-waster, and not nearly as stressful as the actual Sims games are. Simple learning curve, the puzzles are many and varied.

Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 107 Average listal rating (44 ratings) 7.1 IMDB Rating 0
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn - Nintendo DS
Genre: RPG
Company: Nintendo
ESRB: E

Description: "Command the elements...and save the planet! Weyard is on the brink of apocalypse, and only you can stop it! Use your command of fire, water, earth and wind to blaise a trail through a wild continent, and catch all the elemental Djinn that make you even more powerful!"
Playability: Haven't tried it yet. We'll see.
Ease of Save: Not certain yet.
Other comments: After trying this one out for a few months, I have to say that it's an interesting game, though obviously meant for those who have played/like Pokemon games. Not quite my thing, but I don't hate it.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 167 Average listal rating (91 ratings) 6.5 IMDB Rating 0
Cooking Mama - Nintendo DS
Genre: Simulation
Company: Majesco
ESRB: E

Description: "Now you can learn how to cook on your Nintendo DS! Prepares foods, combine raw ingredients, cook the meal and present your culinary masterpiece to Mama for your final score."
Playability: Very repetitive, but more things become avaliable to do as you play, so some replayability.
Ease of Save: Autosaves between rounds, but you must play through the round.
Other comments: A bit tame, but good for those who like "real life" sim type games, or cooking in general.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 21 Average listal rating (7 ratings) 7.6 IMDB Rating 0
Orcs & Elves - Nintendo DS
Genre: RPG
Company: EA
ESRB: T

Description: Answer the call of the hero. From the award-winning creators of Doom RPG, Orcs & Elves transports you to a mythical realm filled with strange beasts and treacherous villains. Explore the ancient citadel of Zharrkarag and unleash powerful sentient weapons in strategic turn-based combat.
Playability: Not particularly replayable, but a good, basic RPG.
Ease of Save: Saveable most of the time.
Other comments: A very basic RPG, but good for a simple version of what it is.
Elfflame's rating:
Genre: Puzzle
Company: Level 5
ESRB: E

Description: "In the curious village of St Mystere, townsfolk greet each other with brainteasers, lock their doors with sliding puzzles, and hide their secrets in mazes. When a baron's last will reveals a treasure hidden in the village, it's up to puzzle master Professor Layton to crack the case!"
Playability: Great for people who like brain-teasers, but otherwise a bit tame.
Ease of Save: Savable between cut-scenes and puzzles.
Other comments: A lot of time is spent in cut-scenes, and saving can be a bit of a hassle, so this isn't a game to play if you only have a few minutes. On the upside, even if you do not immediately solve a puzzle, the game saves them all for you so that you can go back and solve them later.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 14 Average listal rating (6 ratings) 4.5 IMDB Rating 0
Spore Creatures - Nintendo DS
Genre: Simulation
Company: EA
ESRB: E

Description: "Evolve your creature and save your galaxy. Create and adapt your own custom creature. Explore your world and solve puzzles. Make friends or fight with other creatures. Share creatures over Wi-Fi."
Playability: Each time you play, the creature can be different, though there are limited paths to take overall.
Ease of Save: Been too long since I played--I can't quite remember. But I think it's savable most places.
Other comments: I've not played this game through all the way yet, so I'm not entirely sure how much it changes in later play, but the game itself is significantly different from the PC version of Spore.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 11 Average listal rating (6 ratings) 6.3 IMDB Rating 0
Namco Museum DS - Nintendo DS
Genre: Arcade
Company: Bandai Namco
ESRB: E

Description: A collection of 8 classic Arcade games: Pac-Man, Galaga, Dig Dug II, Xevious, The Tower of Druaga, Mappy, Galazian, and Pac-man Vs.
Playability: As with TouchMaster, highly replayable due to the number of games in the pack.
Ease of Save: Autosaves. No saving during games.
Other comments: Obviously, most of these games aren't the big, well-known games, but it's worth it just for those that are well-known.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 8 Average listal rating (5 ratings) 8 IMDB Rating 0
My Word Coach - Nintendo DS
Genre: Brain games
Company: UbiSoft
ESRB: E

Description: "Improve your vocabulary in a few minutes a day! Tired of Searching for the perfect word? Want to express yourself better, or just have fun? Play My Word Coach!"
Playability: The best of the brain games that I've played, and highly playable every day like it suggests you do.
Ease of Save: Autosaves. No saving during games.
Other comments: Though the vocabulary rank is a bit dubious if you don't use it every day, the puzzles themselves are worth playing, and some are actually quite fun.

Diner Dash - Nintendo DS
Genre: Puzzle/Simulation
Company: Secret Stash Games
ESRB: E

Description: The DS version of the popular downloadable PC game where you run a restaurant.
Playability: Definitely a one-time play sort of game, but there are plenty of levels, so you shouldn't get bored with it too fast.
Ease of Save: Autosaves between levels.
Other comments: Really a pretty close port of the PC game, so if you've played that to the end, you'll probably be bored with it.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 4 Average listal rating (2 ratings) 7 IMDB Rating 0
Wordmaster - Nintendo DS
Genre: Puzzle/Simulation
Company: Zoo Games
ESRB: E

Description: "You've never played a vocabulary and strategy game as challenging and unique as Wordmaster. Based on the classic Style of the "Mastermind(R)" board game, Wordmaster uses your vocabulary and spelling skills to deduce hidden 6-letter words."
Playability: Starts up abruptly with no real explanation of what your looking at, but there is a help screen that explains.
Ease of Save: Autosaves between levels.
Other comments: Once you get the hang of the idea behind the game, it's not bad, though a little flawed in concept. I'd recommend "My Word Coach" over this one, though as a cheap buy, it's not horrible.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 8 Average listal rating (5 ratings) 5.8 IMDB Rating 0
Genre: Other--Cookbook
Company: Nintendo
ESRB: E

Description: "Let the Chef guide you! Our expert chef will talk you through the simple steps in each recipe to help you prepare delicious food. Hands full? No problem. When your hands are busy with the cooking, just speak to move through the recipe.
Playability: Not a game, but a very useful tool--so long as you want one of the recipes included in the database.
Ease of Save: Not a game, no need to save here, really.
Other comments: Allows for greater sorting of the provided recipes, and also to filter out those with unwanted ingredients. You are also able to add notes to the recipes and even favorite them if you enjoy them. Very versatile program.
Elfflame's rating:
Genre: Platform
Company: Lucasarts
ESRB: E

Description: "Build and battle through the original trilogy! Play through a fun Star Wars galazy that combines the endless customization of LEGO with the epic story from Star Wars Episodes IV-VI.
Playability: Limited replayability with different player characters.
Ease of Save: to be honest, I haven't played this enough to be sure *where* it saves.
Other comments: To be honest, I think that the PS versions of this are far more playable, but I have not been able to play too far into this game because of issues of gameplay.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 31 Average listal rating (18 ratings) 4.9 IMDB Rating 0
Zoo Tycoon DS - Nintendo DS
Genre: Simulation
Company: THQ
ESRB: E

Description: Create a zoo all your own.
Playability: Once you get past the tutoring levels, the playability goes up.
Ease of Save: Saveable within a level.
Other comments: This is another game where the game has made it hard to get past certain levels because of the clunkiness of game play.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 22 Average listal rating (9 ratings) 5.3 IMDB Rating 0
SimCity DS - Nintendo DS
Genre: Simulation
Company: EA
ESRB: E

Description: A DS port of the classic game.
Playability: Quite replayable, if you can get used to the interface.
Ease of Save: Saveable within a level.
Other comments: The interface is a bit offputting, but if you can get past that, it seems to be a very faithful port.
Elfflame's rating:
Genre: Brain games
Company: G Touch
ESRB: E

Description: "Exercise is the key to good health, both for body and mind--and now there's finally a way to make mental exercise simple and fun. Inspired by the work of prominent Japanese neuroscientist Dr Ryuta Kawashima, this software features activities designed to help stimulate your brain and give it the workout it needs. Using it for just a few minutes each day can make your brain feel fresh and sharp!"
Playability: Along with the exercises, there are also sudoku to keep you playing once your training for the day is done.
Ease of Save: Autosaves, not savable during exercises.
Other comments: Okay, but many of the exercises are voice activated, and therefore cannot be done in public.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (1 ratings) 1 IMDB Rating 0
Mazes of Fate - Nintendo DS
Genre: RPG
Company: Graffitti Entertainment
ESRB: T

Description: "The world of Akhiel is in chaos. The ancient gods, angered with man's blasphemy, have abandoned mankind to replace them with a less troublesome race. There is but one chance to redeem humanity. A hero must come forward...and a difficult pact fulfilled. You are the chosen one and the time is short. The fate of your people is in your hands.
Playability: Uncertain--see below.
Ease of Save: Uncertain--see below.
Other comments: The beginning of this game is so clunky that it was hard to get started, and while it may be an excellent game once you get into it, there are distinct flaws that make it hard to get into.
Elfflame's rating:
People who added this item 2 Average listal rating (2 ratings) 4 IMDB Rating 0
Genre: Strategy
Company: Bandai Namco
ESRB: E

You must earn the respect of all the races of the Land, and together you must fight to keep the Land alive. Travel the Land earning respect and engage in battles along your journey leading up to an all out war.
Playability: See below.
Ease of Save: See below.
Other comments: Another where clunky gameplay, in this case, learning the battle mode, made this game hard to play.

Our Mini Games 26 - Nintendo DS
Genre: Puzzle/Arcade
Company: UFO
ESRB: E

Description: A series of 26 Mini-games.
Playability: Not
Ease of Save: Saves between games.
Other comments: Though there may be a market for this sort of thing, the gameplay is too simplistic to keep one's interest for any period of time. Not recommended at all.
