beginning this themed month with the black sheep of Jurassic Park franchise, and while i agree that its far in terms of quality than the other films, i still think that it has its place in the series, but more as a non canon spinoff instead of a direct sequel, the movie has its fair share of problems, the main one being in my opinion the fact that Spielberg isn´t the one directing it, but you gotta give to the fact that it turned out a ok movie considering the fact that it was a production hell, and it definitely has its moments, the Spinosaurus as the main antagonist is a nice change even though it doesn´t make sense canonically and its not "used" in the best ways, and its in this movie that one of my favourite moments in the whole franchise lies wich is the whole aviary scene (Raptors look awesome aswell).

Don´t really know what to say to be honest, usually these type of older movies have, in my eyes a certain type of charisma, but this one didin´t make it for me, i don´t know exactly if it was the slow pacing, or the terrible effects that did the amazing feat of turning dinosaurs boring, wich is quite shocking!, even the poster is more exciting than the end result!

Score: Very Bad.

Dinosaur (2000)

i already expressed this in a list i did a while ago, but this one is in my opinion one of the most underrated animated movies i ever seen, one of the best hidden gems that Disney has to offer, and its quite unfortunate that its so unappreciated by the company itself (Disney was never nice to their early 2000´s works) and by a lot of people too, wich is ironic to me because its one of the few that escapes their now sickening and overused formulas, and delivers a solid and "soulfull" story, with a very unexpected concept.

King Kong (1933)

Police Lieutenant: Well, Denham, the airplanes got him.
Carl Denham: Oh no, it wasn't the airplanes. It was beauty killed the beast

A great movie considering the time that it was made, and it is surprising how well it still holds up, i could complain the effects, but i am not, because at the end of the day i am a sucker for everything stop motion and knowing that this film was an inspiration for one of my favourite masters of the art Ray Harryhousen, makes it even better, having that said the movie is not perfect and in some specific aspects it shows its age (acting is one of them, i was never a big fan of the more theatrical performances in early cinema when compared to more recent ones), having that said, a great movie indeed and truly a classic, but in my opinion there is definitely better versions ;) wink wink*.

"We could not understand because we were too far and2 could not remember because we were traveling in the night of first ages, of those ages that are gone, leaving hardly a sign - and no memories. We are accustomed to look upon the shackled form of a conquered monster, but there - there you could look at a thing monstrous and free."

Continuing from my last entry, this was the one i was refering to when talking about better versions, to me this movie is one of the ultimate proofs that classics are not untouchable and can also be improved immensely, Peter Jackson does a great job here as far as those improvments go while at the same time maintaining great respect for the classic that is the original, better performances, better character development, great effects (i can´t really say better story as it is preety much the same thing except for a few changes), and of course a much more well developed "relationship" between Ann and Kong, and that is a direct result of the amazing work of andy Serkis and his performance capture, that literally not only brings Kong alive, but also makes him one more character in the story, instead of just a simple beast.

Dinosaur 13 (2014)

Never did i imagine that the paleontologic world could have so much "drama", a truly inspiring and incredibly well made documentary, i already knew who sue was, but i didin´t have any idea of what really went on with her discovery, it truly is a very weird and fascinating story, but the film also has another side to it, it is very fascinating to see and to know that there is such dedicated and passioned people in this line if science, it truly is inspiring and also reminds of a time where even i wanted to become a paleontologist.

Dr. Ian Malcolm: God creates dinosaur. God destroys dinosaur. God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates dinosaur.
Dr. Ellie Sattler: Dinosaur eats man. Woman inherits the earth.

Obviously i could not dedicate a whole month for the dinosaur theme and not watch Jurassic Park, it just wouldn´t make sense taking in consideration that it might aswell be one of the, if not THE best dinosaur themed movie ever made! is there really anything to be said of this movie that hasn´t been said before, not only did it revolutionize the concept of special effects and even the definition of summer blockbusters (and of course its still to this day the perfect example that blockbusters can be smart too), but it managed to inspire a whole generation to follow the famous profession (i include myself on that group), i personally consider it a cinema sin to die without watching this movie at least once in your life ;).

Score: Superb/Masterpiece!

So this is what happens when you try to make bank while taking advantage of peoples excitement for a movie that only comes out a month later, and completely fail at it, i haven´t felt so bored out of my mind in a while, i gotta give it to the movie, it has a very original concept, completely ridiculous, but definitely original, but the story moves soooo freaking slow! its almost painful, the only thing that "saves" it is like i said the concept that while being completely ludicrous its still somehow interesting to see where it goes, i seriously recommend to stay away from this one its not even worth making fun out of it, and what the fuck is up with that ridiculous and pointless ending!? all i know is that for some reason i really feel like drinking a coca cola right now.

Score: Very bad.

If you don't make it, it's your own damn "vault." That's a bitch slap of truth right there.

This is one of those comedies that, while it still has it very funny moments, the whole thing just ends up being kind of bland, wich is unfortunate since i am a fan of both Will Ferrel and Danny Mcbride, but not even they could save the majority of this movie,it feels like the movie tries too hard to have a proper story, when in my opinion it could still do that but in a more self aware way, wich could result in more funny moments and it would fit the movie much better.

Score: Average.

i Think this was a very confused movie, and i don´t mean it like i feel confused after watching it, the movie literally feels like it doesn´t know what it wants to be, it feels like it wants to be a documentary and educate whoever its watching , but only uses this a few times and preety much gives up after that, but on the other side its a standart kids movie with silly voices that are then given to overrealistic depictions of said dinosaurs?, i did not mean to put that interrogation mark there but the confusing nature of those statements made me instinctively put it there, but i gotta give some break, im preety sure there are a lot of kids that actually enjoy the film, im just not the main target audience for it i guess, all know for sure is that i prefer Disney´s dinosaur or even the original BBC series with the same name to this, and im refering to my kid self.

Score: Meh...

I used to love this movie when i was a kid, i watched it so many times that the vhs tape actually stopped working at some point, having that said i am happy that after so many years the movie still holds up quite well, in my opinion a very overlooked film, wich is surprising considering some names that are involved in it, specially James Horner who delivers here a very subtle, yet memorable score, and of course great animation that succeeds at delivering at times some quite interesting visuals, its surprising and at the same time sad that the one song sequence in this movie succeeds at being more memorable and awesome than certain animated movies that are done today.

Score: Preety Good!

i didint really grow up with these movies, i remember watching the third entry of this series and kinda liking it, even though at that age i hated the brazilian dub that it came wih, so when everybody else says that they loved growing up with it, i cant really relate, but i have to say this was a great film, its one of the perfect examples that animation studios back in the day took kids more seriously and weren´t afraid of showing more serious subjects and lessons in their movies (wich is exactly one of the things i hate in most animation nowadays, wich is the lack of those more serious subjects, because "we cant scar the little children for life!") the movie isnt afraid of approaching subjects like death or even racial discrimination that not only make it more enjoyable for an adult to watch the movie and appreciate it but also teaches kids great lessons about said subjects, and once again spielberg somehow involved in it im starting to notice a pattern.

I have to say, for a movie called the dinosaur project, there´s an awful lot of people in it, literally everything that we get in terms of dinosaurs are some wierd theropods who kind of resemble dinos, a few pterodactyls in the distance, a plesiosaurus head, and surprise the creatures that get used the most in the movie, giant bats! wich last time i checked were NOT dinosaurs, also if you insist on doing a handheld camera type of movie make sure to give the characters a legit reason as to why they´re recording everything, that of wich does not exist in this film, theres is literally no reason as to why these characters insist on recording everything, and when all characters do are dumb decisions it is kinda hard relate to them or t have some kind of connection, thats why everytime one dies i dont feel anything, in fact, i think they kind of deserve it, i mean, their first reaction to when they see a dinosaur for the first time is give it skittles, and the one professional in the group just lets it happen, i dont know about you but that sounds legit to me.

Score: Just Plain Bad.

I know i am kinda cheating with this one, after all the main subject of the movie has nothing to do with dinosaurs, but, the movie does have dinosaurs in it even though just for two very short sequences, but it still counts...right?, anyways there is no denying that this was truly a visually amazing movie not only because of its actual visuals but also for its incredible cinmatography, now, theres is a lot of people that hate this movie because it sounds preachy, makes no sense etc., in my opinion i dont think that is the case at all, i think its a great movie about a typical family in the 50´s, but most of all about the hard process of growing up, in the end it almost feels like this was a very personal work for Terrence Malick, the only thing that i didin´t really appreaciate as much were mostly the obvious religious undertones (wich luckily are not preachy, and "melt" well into the story) and those last 15 minutes wich mindfucked me a bit and since endings are very important to me, that is gonna reflect in my final score, to finish, a great movie but i feel like i need to give it an eventual second viewing so that i might have a full grasp on its meaning (mostly that ending).

Score: Preety Good!

While the movie has for sure a interesting concept, it completely falls on its face trying to deliver said concept into a proper storyline, the science in this movie is what i describe as ludibrious, wich i am not certain if its a real word, but its the only sound produced by my vocal chords that can actually describe what i feel about it, literally nothing in this movie makes sense logically, but then again not everything is bad, and while those good things dont necessarily save the movie, they actually make the "experience" somewhat bearable, and im refering to the decent acting by most lead protagonists and the acually somewhat interesting visuals, worth coming back to it but not for a serious viewing.

Score: Just Plain Bad.

Dinosaurs, Ray Harryhousen, and cowboys (well kind of) if those three things do not convince you of how cool this movie is i don´t know what does, to be honest i only approached this movie because of ray harryhousens work wich as i stated before i am a big fan of, i mean the man was way ahead of his time in terms of special effects, and since he worked with stop motion of wich im also a fan that makes it a bonus, this is definitely the type of movie that you should not take very seryously instead just enjoy the great climax where you get to see a dinosaur rampaging through a city, and eating people in a church, and if thats not irony i dont know what is.

Now for the main event of this month, wich to my happyness turned out a success, in my opinion the best of the sequels (even though in my opinion The Lost World does not stay very far from it), the movie in certain aspects is far from perfection, and its very close to becoming a mess at times, with what are in my opinion too many subplots, one of wich is kinda ridiculous (militirazing raptors really!), having that said it still delivers exactly what it promised, and that to me, at least in this case, is what really matters, performances are solid, effects are not perfect but still preety good (in contrary of what many people like to "believe"), and the indominus is truly scary. really lost the count to how many times i found myself smiling like a 5 year old once again (specially at the raptor squad moment), and i seriously doubt that anyone can hate this movie considering those last ten minutes!

Score: Preety Good!

In honor of the return of not only one of my favourite franchises but also a lot of other people too, and also one of my childhood to this day passions, i decided to make of this month, dinosaur focused, wich means exactly what you are thinking i only watched movies with dinosaurs in them, whether they are the protagonists or not it doens´t matter, if it has dinosaur in it i will be watching it :) (i have also included some documentaries that can be discused if they are movies or not, but hey, who cares its freaking dinosaurs!)

The way my rating goes:

★★☆- meh...
