In early 2010, MGM filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, only managing to release one film for the entire year. No longer able to distribute and market its own films, MGM was basically reduced to just another "label name" in a long list of a film's company credits as every one of their new releases at this point was released through another studio. Columbia, Lionsgate, New Line Cinema, Orion, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, United Artists and Warner Bros. were all among the companies that were co-producing and releasing MGM's output throughout the decade. Even despite eventually recovering from their bankruptcy, MGM could never regain its former status as a Hollywood power player. In an effort to increase their paltry film slate and to have an outlet to distribute lower budget genre fare, the studio revived a few long defunct companies (Orion Pictures, American International Pictures) whose film catalogs they already owned the rights to. Some films, most notably the "James Bond", "Jump Street" and "Creed" (a new series spun off from the Rocky franchise) franchises were huge hits but their success and profits had to be shared with the other studios involved in their making. MGM could always reap the benefits of its very successful hotel/casino gaming properties and the memories of their many, many classic movies from those first 35 golden years (1924-1959) of the studio's history will live on for generations to come but for yet another decade, the future of the legendary MGM in Hollywood remained uncertain.
With only 46 releases for the entire decade, this is the shortest MGM listing by far and unless things pick up for the studio as the 2020's progress, the rest of this decade could have even fewer total releases. To think there was once a time when MGM would release this many (sometimes more) movies in one year. Since all of these movies ended up getting acquired and released by other companies with MGM simply receiving a mere co-producer credit, none of them really "feel" like MGM movies. Still, they are a part of the studio's history and should be acknowledged as such.
