Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - Xbox One
December 29th
I don't really feel like going into this in print as much as I could just talking about it, but this hits all the right points. It's brilliantly designed, is never not fun and actually has a story I kind of care about. Which is incredibly hard to do. Shadow of Mordor is the best Assassin's Creed game.

Somehow Ubisoft managed to suck the fun feeling out of the game. Probably has to do with my eyes being raped by DLC. If you think Unity was bad... you're right. But this is also bad.

Extremely hit and miss. Some of the missions are really well constructed, climbing the Eiffel Tower comes to mind, more stuff like that would have been nice. But it's obvious that this game was rushed and could have been a lot better with more time. From what I can tell, all the new mechanics suck. Going in windows is impossible on the first try. Arno does what you want him to about 5% of the time. The new mechanic of having the assassin's blade and your other weapon not being interchangeable and based on the context is fucking awful. Like... seriously, what were they thinking? It's the fucking worst. So basically, platforming sucks and combat sucks. That leaves story, which this game is so stupidly heavy on. I usually hate games that try to be movies, and this isn't an exception actually. From what I see in the unskippable cutscenes that I have muted, story seems decent. Fuck off with it though.

Counting this shit as beat because it's got a career mode. And it sucks big time. It's sad because it could be really good, and hopefully will be in 2K16, but only getting storylines three times a year, in the off times being constantly told "we have nothing for you pick one of these matches", and only lasting 4 years in my case is fucking lame. It seems like there were a lot of possibilities that I just didn't get, but it's so not worth it to try again. It takes forever to get out of NXT, where you just do random matches with the same four guys week after week. Once I finally won the world title it fucking simulates my career 11 years and tells me I have to wrestle my retirement match now. But first they need to tell me they have nothing for me, and they might line me up with a push sometime soon despite holding the title for 11 straight years I guess. So yeah, career mode sucks, Showcase mode sucks, just like it does every year and Universe seems unappealing for some reason, even though I was playing 2K14's career up until the day I got 2K15. Then again, 14's Universe was probably unappealing until I downloaded like 70 dudes to make it my own. There are only 25 Create-a-Wrestler spots in this game so... hm. WWE 2K15 as a single player game is pretty shit.

No noticeable upgrades from the 360 version other than some extra costumes. Still a fun game. I played both DLCs, Year of the Snake was pretty cool, it really feels like a Chow Yun-Fat movie, even moreso than the regular game, probably has to do with the length. The other one is dumb.

I do think the first is a bit better, it tends to be a lot more memorable, but it'd be hard to go back to the first one if you played this first. The mechanics are a lot better, the stomp feels great and being able to fly freely in space is nice, those segments were great.

Like a lot of arcade ports, it's fun when you're not spending your real money. If it weren't for infinite continues I'd be extremely angry, and I kind of still am in retrospect. I hate quarter munchers. FUN GAME THO

Real quick, small Metroidvania, but the platforming is great and the combat manages to stay fun the whole time. HORRIBLE attempts at humor though, and the shameless DLC integration is baaad. Overall, super fun game though, not sure how much replay value it has.

Unexpectedly addicting, I kept saying how simple the game is, but as you get into it, it does get a bit more complicated. That said, somehow you're self-publishing games that make 600 million dollars, but you never expand past a team of seven people. Also, I couldn't help but think the game was just too fast, five or six hours into the game I had a 35 year long career in video game development. But I guess that kind of helps emphasize how long it takes to make games. Fun game, would play again.

An insanely, undeniably fun game. Surprisingly well done stealth, it actually reminds me of MGS. But of course the main attraction is the slow mo sniper kills, and they honestly never get old. The game is pretty short so they don't have a chance to. Really, really fun.

The style and aesthetic is what really sells me on this game, I mean it helps that I absolutely love rhythm games. Awesome, lovely game, I'm just happy that I have it, especially considering how it's getting expensive now. Definitely one of the best on the 3DS.

I've been meaning to start this series for a long time now, and it might be hard to go play the first one now that I've played this. This game is huuuggeee, yes 40 dollars was too much to ask, but there's definitely enough in here to entertain someone for a long time. I can only imagine how massive Phantom Pain is going to be, and I'm pretty excited for that. Maybe I can actually get through the first four before I start that one.

An incredible experience. Whether you're making the decision or not, I never felt like my hand was forced. This game really played on my thought processes and I actually wonder why I made the decision I did in the end. As far as actual gameplay goes, it's surprisingly good, I think the action scenes were spaced pretty well where I didn't feel like they got old, and I had fun but at the same time I never wanted to do them. Which is a testament to the story of this game. I wish there were more games like this.

I thought I didn't like Ratchet and Clank, I only played Future Tools of Destruction for a little bit, but I decided to throw this in a couple days ago for some reason. I had a lot of fun, and this game got pretty fucking hard toward the end. Definitely the most difficult game I've beaten this year. The last boss was perfectly challenging and actually had my heart racing. Overall this game is really charming, I could easily tell it was made by the same studio as Spyro. I am now a fan.

Interesting game. The platforming would be really fun if it weren't for the camera, and the combat is not particularly bad, just a little boring. I think it's a good mix though and certainly worth the time to get all the achievements, which should be said, is the only reason I played this.

Definitely did not enjoy this as much as I did the first time. Despite this game's many flaws it's really unique in a lot of ways and fun for a while. The fun doesn't exactly last as long as the game does though.
