The Greatest Showman (2017)
Seen on January 7 at a Regal Cinemas location.
This movie was great! It had an awesome soundtrack and an interesting plot, and also had messages about laughing at yourself by turning the negative things people say about you into positives and being able to work together through any challenges or obstacles you might face.

Ferdinand (2017)
Seen on January 17 at a Showcase Cinemas location.
This was a very good film! This film reminded me of classic talking animal stories like Charlotte’s Web, had entertaining characters (Lupe and Nina were my favorite characters), a great soundtrack, and a beautiful message against animal abuse.

Mary and the Witch's Flower (2017)
Seen on January 18th and February 24 at a Regal Cinemas location. For both days, I saw the English-dubbed version.
This screening had a Q&A with the director afterwards, but I didn't stick around to see it both times.
For Studio Ponoc’s first movie, it was better than any Studio Ghibli movie I’ve seen! It was beautiful, and it was very captivating.

Shorts (these played after the film): Leave it to Kero!, Sakura and the Two Bears (Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Prologue)
This was a great movie! I haven't seen Cardcaptor Sakura in a while, but this movie was pretty enjoyable and cute. The Clear Card prologue was great, too!

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha: Reflection
Seen on February 11th at a Regal Cinemas location. Shown in the original Japanese version with English subtitles.
This film was pretty good! At first, the film was a little confusing for me, since I didn’t watch the original show the film was based on, but as it progressed, I started to like it!

Paddington 2 (2017)
Seen on February 21 at a Regal Cinemas location.
This movie was great! It was very creative, and had a good message about always being good to others, even if they are not what they seem when you first meet them. The villain was also pretty interesting, and I liked the use of 2D animation and the pop-up book sequence.

Seen on April 22 at a Showcase Cinemas location.
This had a short at the beginning about a cat chasing a CGI creature, but I didn’t catch the name.
This was a good movie! It almost threw me off at first because it seemed like it wanted to be a comedic Studio Ghibli film, but as it went on, it reminded me of a Disney talking animal movie.

Isle of Dogs (2018)
Seen on Wednesday, April 24 at a Regal Cinemas location.
This movie was amazing and a breath of fresh air compared to most animated films typically in theaters! It had a great message about standing up for what you believe in, and never giving up, no matter how tough the circumstances are.

Seen on May 12 at an independent first-run theater.
This movie was really fun and unique to me. I don’t understand why so many people hated it. It was a cute little adventure film. It sort of gave me a happy feeling, like when I watched Paddington 2! I saw this film because my friend liked the character Moriarty, and he was one of the best parts of the film!

Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
Seen on May 24 at a United Artists location. Because it was an Opening Night Fan Event, the film had a special thank-you message from Ron Howard at the beginning that could not be seen on normal screenings of the film.
This film was the best Star Wars standalone film I’ve seen so far! It was action-packed, funny, and fun!

The Incredibles (2004)
Seen on June 13th at a Regal Cinemas location in IMAX 2D as part of the Incredibles 2 Double Feature event.
Alongside the short Bao playing with Incredibles 2, this screening also contained an introduction to the double feature as well as a thank-you message before the second film.
This movie was awesome! I loved the concept of a universe where superheroes existed, but were made illegal and had to go undercover, even when they had to do secret superhero things!

Incredibles 2 (2018)
Seen on June 13th at a Regal Cinemas location in IMAX 2D as part of the Incredibles 2 Double Feature event.
Short: Bao
This was a great continuation to the previous film! Sure, it may have seemed similar to the first film, but instead of primarily focusing on the parents, this film also explored the Parr kids and their problems, and I loved their story arc.

Seen on June 16 at a local independent theater.
This was one of the best films I’ve seen this year! The songs were catchy, it made me happy, and it was adorable! I also love how Lu and Kai stood up for themselves when people thought Lu was dangerous!

Won't You Be My Neighbor? (2018)
Seen on June 22nd at a Showcase Cinemas location.
This was a very heartwarming movie! I loved how it showed that Fred Rogers not only cared for children and saw himself as a protector of them, but he also tried his best to cheer up others and himself when the times got rough.

The Happytime Murders (2018)
Seen on August 23 at a Regal Cinemas location.
This film was great! The film reminded me of Sherlock Gnomes and Zootopia! It was at least a more competent detective film than Sherlock Gnomes (which I still liked despite this film being better), because several aspects of the mystery and dynamic between the main characters were better established than in the former film. Heck, even the villain had a purpose to their actions in this film!

This movie was good! Compared to most sci-fi films, this film is actually calming and quiet! Also...what the heck was that ending? Even after reading the explanation Stanley Kubrick had, I was still baffled by the ending and what it was supposed to be!

Seen on September 9th at a Regal Cinemas location as part of the TCM Big Screen Classics film series.
Contained an introduction by Ben Makowitz of TCM, as well as a post-credits discussion of the film by him, which I didn’t stick around to see.
This film was fun! I cannot believe how cheerful and optimistic the film was most of the time, even when it got into more darker territory.

Seen on October 21 at a Regal Cinemas location.
This is the first movie I’ve actually hated in a while! I felt no emotions for this movie at all, and didn’t want to waste much time watching it, so I left early (the first film I’ve done that for!) It was just a stupid, not scary, generic kids’ flick that didn’t hold a candle to the original film!

This was a great Halloween movie! I could see why everyone likes it: not only does it have the “evil trio with two bumbling idiots” trope I enjoy, it also has a beautiful message about treasuring your family, especially your siblings!

This movie was better than I remember it being two years ago! I especially loved how I realized Sally’s story is a PG-rated take on the Frankenstein story, at least from what I knew about the story.

Seen on November 8th at a Regal Cinemas location in 3D.
This was the best Grinch adaptation I’ve seen! It was funny and more thought out than the Jim Carrey version, and it was very heartwarming! The message was great: “Everyone deserves to be loved and not alone”, and spoke out to me, especially with my love of villain characters! Plus, Cindy Lou Who is so adorable, and is a good role model for most young girls, since she is kind-hearted and brave.

This movie was so relatable, and spoke to my generation about so many issues, and unlike what I heard about The Emoji Movie, it takes us on a fun adventure through the Internet without being pandering.

This movie was an awesome and emotional movie, and might as well be the best superhero movie of the year! It even taught me how to deal with loss properly: be strong and don’t let it weaken you!

This movie was the best one I’ve seen this year! It was magical, beautiful, and creative!
I thought that this year would be nothing special in terms of new releases. I was wrong. Lots of great things happened this year in film, like Moriarty the Pie Mascot and his gargoyle friends from Sherlock Gnomes, The Incredibles 2, a heartwarming documentary about a childhood TV show, another great Disney live-action film, a spectacular, dramatic, and funny live-action movie about warlocks and witches...
