August: Osage County (2013)

I just felt so bad for his character in this movie. I thought his relationship and love for his girl friend was too precious. They think they are cousins. We find out in the end that she's his half sister and that doesn't go over very well.
IMO it's not the end of the world. They can still be close, have a life together. They can even move away from their family and change their names. I have a very skewed moral system. Let them be together.
Over all this movie was depressing and hard to watch. I have no idea why someone would watch this. Sure it made me feel, like what movies goers look for, something compelling but this just was depressing. Maybe someone who life is is dull and boring that they crave someone eles's exciting, unfortunate, tragic, family drama. I go to movies to feel good, laugh and or be thrilled also or to watch an actors work I admire. In this case Mr. Cumberbatch. He performance was tender, scared, wounded and tentative. I wanted him to be happy but in the end he just ended up being even more devastated.
The Fifth Estate (2013)

I love the premise of this move and found it very interesting. The concept of a transparent government. I think it's an important message to get out to people. They need to seek out information and question things. I admire what Assange was trying to do. Ben's portrayal was a celebration of him not a done to make him look bad. I haven't researched myself just how far Assange was willing to go to leak information and get huge publicity at the same time. Though someone in Assange's situation in the movie shouldn't give his enemies one legit reason to make him look bad. He didn't have massive support behind him, he was still trying to win people over trying to inform them. So if his enemies could trash his reputation ad prove/say he has blood on his hands then he'd loose peoples admiration and support.
Benedict gave a a great performance and brought an interesting character to the big screen
Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

This was an all around exciting and funny movie. I didn't follow the hype surrounding Ben and this movie. I was not much of a fan at that time. I had not seen him in Sherlock yet.:P But when he appeared on screen dear lord did he smoulder. I just kept thinking 'That voice.' I know it may have had editing but dang. Love the way he manipulated Kirk, had me going too. I love that, even though I knew he was probably going to be evil. You do wonder just how much truth the guy is mixing with lies.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)

Boring, Boring movie. I was bored bored board :P Went with a friend who thought it would be engaging. So I'll precede to talk about Ben which is what this list is about. :D When he appeared on screen I was like hello :D as if I had seen him before and was a fan which was weird because I had only seen him in The Other Boleyn Girl and Atonement, neither roles having made a lasting impression. Having re watched Atonement, Ben did make a very brief wolfish, haughty appearance. Even that movie was far more interesting then this one, boo.

I just re watched this movie (Jan.2014) I forgot what he did in this movie. I'm surprised he'd even take the role. I Mean, he does little else besides leer at a 12 year old then is glimpsed having raped her. Maybe he didn't have many roles coming his way at that time or maybe he just wanted to work with friends.
He's probably the kindest, most polite, genuine, easy going actor that I've ever looked up. He's great with predatory parts and arrogant parts but then again he's really stellar all the way around.
