Road to Perdition (2002)

Gangster movie, comic book adaptation, character study, Hanksy vehicle, heck what's not to love? I found this film engrossing on the big screen and it even held up when I saw it on TV recently.

Hero (2002)

The visually stunning homage to early mainland Chinese kung fu movies actually predicts a lot of the elements we now see in modern superhero movies. Most impressive is the physical skills of the cast, which would be impossible to recreate with Hollywood talent.

An intense depiction of one of the most infamous cases of English on Irish violence. England suffered decades of IRA bombings and terrible soccer ever since.

Top what? I decided to list all the 9 and 10 star rated movies (based on my own ratings) of each year instead of trying to make a list of exactly 10. Some years may have 1 and some may have 20 in the list. It depends on the amount of good movies I saw from that year - but even more it hopefully reflects the amount of decent movies that were actually made in a particular year.
