15 different movies that I will never forget.

"The Dark Knight", quite possibly the best movie I have ever seen. I went to the cinema expecting an amazing film... it exceeded my already high expectations, something I don't think it happens very often. It is also the only movie that I watched twice on the big screen, ever! It was that good.

This movie works as a stand-alone story but it obviously continues the events of "Batman Begins" which happens to be one great movie as well. However, after watching "The Dark Knight" I look at "Batman Begins" and what I see is the prequel of a masterpiece.

So what is this film? It's basically a breath-taking action flick, a suspenseful crime story, a psycological thriller, a character development ride with unexpected drama and an amazingly well-told story with great direction, groundbreaking performances, incredible visuals and a memorable soundtrack. Oh I forgot to mention a little detail, it is also a superhero movie, and he has a bike.

So you could say that this movie here on this list, represents all that is good in the 7th art.

Ok now on a more serious note, this movie is a thrilling superhero action movie with a great police/mob story and one of those villains you will never forget.

Do I need to mention the Joker? I don't think I need to mention the Joker... But I will say that he is definitely ONE of the highlights of this movie (and probably the best one with that otherworldly performance) and he makes the film more interesting. However this movie is a complete success, it's a great achievement on the whole, not just a good movie with some successful elements in it... It's an amazing collective, the film, with outstanting individualities, the joker; the bike; etc.

So please enjoy this amazing movie on the whole. It's natural to be stupefied when watching those scenes with pencils or hospitals, but don't let them steal you total attention from the masterpiece of deep visual entertainment that is this movie.

The greatest fantasy tale of good vs. evil is the one told in "The Lord of the Rings". "The Return of the King" was my favorite of the trilogy (the extended version please!) and is here on this list representing the whole trilogy and the fantastic, adventurous and magical genres out there.

Ever since I watched the "The Fellowship of the Ring" on the big screen, as a young teenager, I fell in love with the characters, the story and the exciting adventure! Seeing our already beloved fellowship struggling against that Giant Squid-thing, fighting the Cave Troll and running from Balrog! Is too much excitement... it's too good to watch just once... it's one hell of a ride. This first movie manages to strike you with emotions of fear and excitement due to its realistic presentation and the likeable introduced characters of the fellowship. Scenes like our Hobbits encounters with the Nazgul or the Cave Troll can really invoke your total focus and attention.

Then we got "The Two Towers" which is not my favorite of the trilogy, but it did have the best ending among the three. This movie also shows our heroes finding their place in this quest while evolving within themselves showing greater character development than the first movie. The feeling of a dangerous adventure is also replaced by a frightening, dark and tense atmosphere and a fear of failure and death. And we can cleary see that on one of the most intense moments of this trilogy, the Elm's Deep battle which is definitely an excitement and emotional ride.

And thus, my biggest antecipation of a movie happened, the antecipation for the third and final part.

And what can I say? It was one of those good moments in life! I watched the conclusion (and a lot freaking more!) of one my favorite adventures ever and I got to see Gandalf taking on a huge Mountain Troll with the help of the scared-outta their pants soldiers of Gondor, Legolas taking out a Mameluke like a hot knife cutting through butter and the biggest and most intense battle on-screen ever! With catapults and trebuchets wrecking havoc, trolls breaking through gates, flying dragons striking fear and screaming death from above, thousands of horses charging through thousands of orcs, huge elephant-like creatures suddenly appearing raising the chaos and body count and finally a much struggled victory.

And in the end guess what happened? The good did win and the ring was really destroyed (against all odds mind you!) Oops, did I spoil you? Haha I know I didn't because in these stories you always know how it's going to end, but that does NOT matter does it? What really matters is the ride, the adventure, the excitement, the fight for what one believes in, the strong values shown within this story, the comic-relief, Gimli jumping and Aragorn kicking some orcs' uggly butts. All of that is what really matters, and that my friend, is the best journey ever.

When I saw this movie for the first time (as well as the first one) I was a child that wasn't supposed to be watching it in the first place... but I'm glad I did it because this movie amazed me in every aspect.

It was violent, and it had such a heavy and dark atmosphere you couldn't help but feel the fear felt by the main characters. This movie really gives that rare feeling that it's pointless to run, that there's no hope, that you can't fight it... that it's simply impossible.

The action is simply out of this world and to this day this remains as one of the best action movies ever made in my book, as well as the pinnacle of what the Sci-Fi genre has to offer. And it managed to do it in a very realistic way.

The ending was the most emotional ending I had seen in my early days, I would even say tragic, because it was one of those movies that transcends simple entertainment. Tt injected feelings of fear, adrenaline, hope and sadness in me like no other movie did.

Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Now this is a superhero movie, filled with crazy action scenes, great effects, funny momments and a little cheesyness. I can't explain why I like the Spider-man movies so much, I even liked the 3rd movie which I admit it wasn't very good, but it was entertaining and it even managed to be very emotional for me.

Spider-man has always been my favorite super-hero. There's just something about a super-hero fighting crime, struggling to pay the bills and trying to find time to study. It certainly was a hero that revolutionized the basic concept of the rich hero which has a secret base filled with costumes, weapons, gimmicks, wheels, etc. That and Spider-man's charisma appealed to me. He is a funny character, he wears a funny costume and he has awesome powers! He is not an indestructible mutant nor a green beast with infinite strength... or even a guy who bursts into flames or shoots laser-beams outta his ass! He is a simple hero and has enough appeal to be cool and interesting, and spider powers! After all he is your friendly neighbourhood Spider-man! And by the way, the original Spider-man created a hardening, sticky liquid/glue making his own web (not part of his original power), because in spite of his initial superhuman powers, Peter Parker is also a brilliant teenager and used that great intelect to his advantage. That good analysis and perception of his also saved his ass inumerous times (I must confess I used to be an avid reader of the comics and follower of its never-ending story).

And this movie delivers all that, it shows how great of a super-hero Spider-man really is, his crazy-ass awesome villains, his cheesy jokes, his athletic and jumpy fighting style, it's all awesome to be seen!

And for action fans, be it chaotic havoc, insane car chases, sword fights or fisticuffs action, there are some scenes in this movie that will for sure please all of you. Starting from Dr. Octupus robbing the Bank all the way to the train stopping... it's candy for my eyes... a long Spider-man vs. Dr. Octupus fight, one of my favorites ever.

Now as a spidey fan and as someone who enjoyed the 3 movies, what I can say regarding the 3rd one is: watch it with an open mind, watch it for entertainment and focus your attention on Sandman's sidestory, it will make the experience much more enjoyable.

Blood Diamond (2006)
I'm going to start by saying that I felt this movie very deeply, partly
due to its very powerful and emotional story, partly because of the
solid and strong performances of DiCaprio and Djimon Hounsou which was
a good surprise.

This movie has a political side to it, the RUF (Revolutionary United
Front) is a violent group of rebels that kidnaps children, destroys
their innocence with drugs and alcohol transforming them into one of
the rebels themselves with a complete brainwash, while enslaving adults
to work on a diamond field. Diamonds those, that are used to fund their
war. However the main point of interest in this film, is the quest of a
fisherman (Djimon Hounsou), made slave by the RUF, to try and save his
son, who was kidnapped by RUF as well, when he is rescued by a diamond
smuggler (Leonardo Dicarpio) who is only interested in... diamonds.

The story becomes a painful journey for these men, each one using the
other to reach their own goal. It's interesting to see the evolution of
the relationship between them and the character development twists as
they become closer. Especially interesting to see is the inner conflicts
going on with DiCpario's character.

It becomes with no doubt an emotional ride within a violent and intense
story. I don't mean violent in a graphical way (the movie has some very
tough scenes though), but violent in the way the movie explores and
deals with the darkest and evilest sides of men's nature, as well as
what despair and force of will can achieve.

If I was a child living in the situation those African children were
living, I would look at the RUF and I would see the purest state of
fear and evil, so great of an evil that it could torture and twist you
to the point of destroying all the good and innocent in you and
transform you in fear itself. Now this is what this child is
experiencing and what this father is trying to stop at all costs...
Heavy, no?

This movie is definitely worth being seen, it's a human story
with a inhuman side to it, though not everyone will have an easy time
watching it. I watched this movie with my father (who is actually a
very sensitive person concerning movies and not-only) and he greatly
enjoyed the movie but had trouble watching some of the more powerful
scenes due to their incredible realism.

Great story, great drama, powerful performances and a beautiful
reporter as well (Jennifer Conneli, I forgot to mention you!). The best
movie of the genre I've watched, no doubt.

Aliens (1986)
The original Alien was a landmark in Suspense and Sci-Fi film-making, while this movie grabbed that suspense and transformed it into thrilling and fast-paced action, keeping the dark and suspenseful atmosphere of the first movie.

James Cameron knows how to make amazing sequels. Pretty much like the Terminator franchise, the first movie consists of a more claustrophobic nature while the sequel becomes more thrilling and faster-paced, leveling up the quality of the movie on the whole.

Definitely a kind of movie that is not for everyone, but for fans of the genre, it is, for sure, one of the most exciting and frightening cinematic experiences one can experience.

Another upgraded point in my opinion is the story. This movie has a much more elaborated story with great direction with its perfect mix of suspense, action and unexpected thrills, and one of those "come-back" endings worthy of making the jaw drop to the ground.

Gladiator (2000)
I've always loved historical and medieval movies so when I watched "Gladiator" I couldn't help but feel it was one of the best movies I had seen.

It opens with a brutal war scene that gives you a fake hint of what the movie is about. It's not a war movie, it's a character ridden movie, almost biographic, following the drama and unbelievable story of Maximus, one of the best characters in the history of Cinema if you ask me (and a groundbreaking performance by Russel Crowe).

I'm not sure how accurate is this movie concerning historical facts, but the story is simply fantastic with perfect direction and strategic powerful moments, like the fights in the Arena and Colosseum where I was constantly on the edge of my seat, with an ever growing feeling of "how the hell is Maximus gonna get away from this". And what brutal fights they were, violent and realistic as they should be depicted in a movie of this caliber. Flawless.

Overall, a very dramatic and powerful movie that can be enjoyed by anyone who has the guts to watch it, especially the extended version which has a lot more scenes to it, mostly the more violent takes.

Seven (1995)
Ok you can't go wrong with this movie... It's one of those movies that can reach every kind of audience and please almost anyone. Because let us be honest, people like suspense and mystery, and when you throw a great story, powerful performances and the seven sins to the mix you cannot help but enjoy it, even if you are not religious and couldn't care less for the seven sins.

This movie is about the investigation of a series of crimes committed by a serial killer that murders people in a very peculiar way... based on the seven sins. However, the crime scenes are done in such an inventive and obscure way that the investigation is going to steal your total interest and attention while gluing you to the screen like no other will.

The cops responsible for this case, portrayed amazingly by Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, slowly start to get too involved and affected by the nature of these crimes. They are dealing with nothing less than a genius, a genius that planned these crimes to perfection and that will stop at nothing to finish his "masterpiece", in its very unique and artistic way.

A psychological thriller and an investigation filled with mystery and suspense, and one that will remain with you for a while when it's over.

With one of the most memorable and powerful intros I have ever seen, this remains to this day the best modern-war movie I have ever watched. With the genius actor Tom Hanks in yet another unmatchable performance, this movie follows the story of Capt. John H. Miller (played by Tom Hanks) leading a group of soldiers in a very unusual mission.

The concept of risking the lives of many to save one man is not anything new, but this movie tells that kind of story in a very realistic and powerful manner, while the characters throughout the movie keep questioning themselves: why do they have to risk the lives of good men? Why do they have to risk their own lives? What is the point of risking so much just to save the life of one person, in a war that is ripping the lives of so many? One thing is certain, these soldiers, at least the ones that will make it to the end, will find their answers, especially Capt. John Miller.

I know I've been using the word "brutal" a little too much in this list, but I have to use it again, this movie is brutal, brutal in a frightening and realistic way. The quest to find this private Ryan will be a very painful one and it will be costly, with our soldiers constantly finding themselves in desperate situations.

Many people didn't like the concept of this movie even if they agreed it was a great movie. Watch it from beginning to end and you will see its depth and be amazed by its story. A thrilling, powerful, brutal, dramatic, breathtaking war movie like no other.

This movie is simply the king of Jackie Chan movies and the king of Martial arts movies with the most visually crazy and exciting fighting style I have ever seen, drunken boxing!

The story in these kinds of movies are never their strong point, and this one is no exception, but it's still pretty decent and builds up for the fighting scenes pretty well.

Honestly, this movie does not fall behind its predecessor, which is an amazing film on his own, only lacking the super outstanding breathtaking groundbreaking final fight of this one! And so I picked it for this list as the masterpiece of all Martial arts movies.

Both "Drunken Master" and "The Legend of the Drunken Master" are comedy gold movies with some of the most amazing choreographies you will ever watch, and for people who enjoy kung fu fights and a good amount of laughs, then these movies are must-see's and should not be missed at all!

WALLยทE (2008)
Usually this type of movie, sort of romantic movie, doesn't have much emotional impact on me. However, the story in this was the most powerful and most human story I have ever seen with my eyes. It's pure and simply the story of a being that just doesn't want to be alone anymore, and Wall-E portrays this in a manner that is both artistical and enjoyable, leading to the emotional side of it like other love story.

I cried my eyes out in this one. There's just so much beauty and purity in the journey of Wall-E.

Not to mention the visually STUNNING scenarios of a desolated post-apocalyptic planet, that only Pixar could come up with.

Simply, one of my favorite movies of all time, and the most heart-warming romance I have ever seen. 2008 was such a good year... and I can't praise this movie enough.

Basically this is a small list of 10 very special movies for me, unrelated and of different genres, movies that somehow seem superior to those of the same genre and that appealed to me more than the others. You could call it a top 10, but its not exactly that because if it was a top 10 it would have all 3 movies of the lord of the rings trilogy... among other titles.

Edit: I've been watching and re-watching some great films lately and I might give more additions to this list making it a 15 item list.
