"22.06.2019 A big change of direction for director Steve McQueen on this one. At times it is visually interesting, but despite its all-star cast it is disappointing. Some of the story and plot details are a bit ridiculous. It shows that the strength of the director lies in his ability to tell stories visually rather than relying on plot details and genre. Has none of the power and intensity of films like Shame and 10 Years A Slave."

“Since I'm a big fan of Steve McQueen, of course, I was quite eager to check his last directing effort, especially since the reviews were once again really positive. Well, to be honest, I have to admit that it was actually slightly disappointing. I mean, sure, McQueen has delivered here a solid and original heist movie but it wasn't really much more than that and even if it was not bad at all, it was still his least interesting movie so far. On the positive side, he had a really strong cast at his disposal and all the actors involved have delivered some strong performances, especially Viola Davis who remains one of the best actresses at work nowadays. Eventually, what I was missing or what I was hoping for, was that McQueen would try somehow to subvert the genre but even though there was a ” read more
