A good movie

Since I'm a big fan of Steve McQueen, of course, I was quite eager to check his last directing effort, especially since the reviews were once again really positive. Well, to be honest, I have to admit that it was actually slightly disappointing. I mean, sure, McQueen has delivered here a solid and original heist movie but it wasn't really much more than that and even if it was not bad at all, it was still his least interesting movie so far. On the positive side, he had a really strong cast at his disposal and all the actors involved have delivered some strong performances, especially Viola Davis who remains one of the best actresses at work nowadays. Eventually, what I was missing or what I was hoping for, was that McQueen would try somehow to subvert the genre but even though there was a nice grittiness, it still felt safe and it was just too faithful to the genre to become anything really amazing so it felt like like a missed opportunity. At least, it was miles better than 'Ocean's Eight' but that wasn't really a difficult goal to achieve. Anyway, to conclude, even though this movie didn't really fulfil my expectations, it was still a decent watch and it is worth a look, especially if you are interested in Steve McQueen's work.
