"This movie needs another 90 minutes to become what it is desperately wanting to be. Bergman succeeds in similar goals of portraying deeply troubled, still loving relationships and the trials and tribulations of the human spirits of those involved in other films better than he does here, but even in failure he makes a very sweet, interesting film with especially noteworthy Sjöström and Maj-Britt Nilsson performances.
