"It is profoundly weird to see a Wes Anderson film where people can still emote in a manner that isn't directed at the lens of the camera and where the camera often moves in a natural rather than constructed manner and the narrative has a rather traditional structure. I feel like it diminishes his (and co-writer Owen Wilson's) sense of humor, but it definitely helps the performances actually hit home on occasion. Alas, it's all a bit worn territory for me on the emotional front, so this didn't go"

"Re-watch - Dec. 11th I've come to realize the thing I most appreciate about Rushmore is how toned down Wes Anderson's style is. With each new film his style gets more grating to me, but here he lacked the budget to go all out and while his style is present it never goes overboard. The story and characters all work well too, and it makes me sad that I don't enjoy his other films this much."
