“I wasn’t really dying to see this flick but since my wife really loved the first installment, I thought we might as well watch it together. Well, they basically followed the same formula and if you didn’t like ‘Mamma Mia!’, you probably won’t like this flick either. For this new installment, they combined a sequel with a prequel which wasn’t really a bad idea but the end-result was not ‘The Godfather II’, that’s for sure. In fact, I really struggled to get into this flick and, for a while, I was thinking that the damned thing would turn out to be downright terrible. Eventually, as soon as Lily James was on screen, it finally started to become watchable. Indeed, it was a bold move to kill off Meryl Streep’s character since she was probably the major draw in the first mov” read more
“Ten years separated the first film and this sequel. The only shocking thing about that factoid is that it took so long. Never mind that the musical sequences rarely had anything to do with the plot, or that the actors couldn’t sing (for the most part), or that much of it was shoddily made, filmed, edited, the original Mamma Mia made a small fortune at the box office. I guess people really enjoyed watching Meryl Streep cavort around a Greek island dressed in boho chic and miming along to ABBA. Frankly, it sounds like a gay fantasia. Well, here comes Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, a title that sounds both like a knowing joke and a sigh of resignation, feels like the polished, finished product of what the original film could have been. This time around we watch twin stories that parallel” read more
"I didn't like the first Mamma Mia movie at all but thankfully due to the delightful Lily James, I enjoyed this movie much more. The story flirts between the past and present to see how Donna met the 3 fathers in her youth and of Sophie's reopening of her late mother's hotel and then the impending birth and christening of her baby during the present day. I know there's been a lot of controversy about Donna's backstory as it contradicts what was said in the first movie but who cares. Lily James is"
"This is definitely not a good movie. It's ridiculous; really ridiculous. And yet sometimes in that joyously stupid way like when you're dancing alone in your room. Also horribly, horribly, dear god corny. But the truth is if you're willing to lean into the joyous stupidity, it's pretty enjoyable. In fact there's really nothing wrong with feel-good joyous stupidity. The thing that most bothered me was the acting and how it often felt like the actors were feeling more of the stupid than the leave-"

"Get out the spandex and join in the camp fun as we join the gang for more Abba-tastic feel-good fun. With the hotel in Greece preparing to be reopened, Sophie (Amanda Seyfield) starts to see parallels with her mother's life as we see how Donna (Lily James) came to Greece and met her three suitors. While it does take a little time to find its groove, James is a delightful addition to the cast, while the old gang throw themselves into the tunes with gusto that you can't help but leave with a smile"
"Tomatometer Guess: 39%. Actual Score: 79%. Mamma Mia 2 will more than satisfy fans of the first film and the musical it's based on. Everyone else will also likely enjoy it."
