"FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★★ NOTES: Japan Foundation print, screened as part of In Dreams are Monsters. A gorgeous and perfectly arranged print that is close to authentic; each segment ends by changing over to the next reel. Shame that the final reel of ‘Hoichi the Earless’ was projected slightly out of focus. Three of the reels change a quarter-second late, and the second reel of ‘In a Cup of Tea’ starts off unstable until the first line of dialogue is spoken. DATE: December 13"

"First viewing - June 5th Unsure if I just was not in the right mood for it, but for the most part I was bored out of my mind with Kwaidan. The film looks stunning, and on technical levels it's tough to complain about too much. Were it not for the outstanding visuals and my determination to see it through, I would have dropped the film for something else. Really I should have abandoned it, but I made myself finish it. I liked the 2nd tale best of all 4, and the final tale was amusing, but the 1s"
