Youth In Revolt

In using this title, I do not refer to the 2009 Michael Cera-Miguel Arteta comedy, but to this little-known Danish film from the 70's. "You Are Not Alone" is as plausible as that film was far-flung, and it stars little known actors, many of whom were never cast in a major role again, as it's characters.

Set at a dull boarding school in the in-it's-time modern Denmark, it features... read more

Young teenager Bo (Anders Agensø) is too sensitive for the hothouse atmosphere of a boarding school run by a cold, unfeeling would-be man of the cloth (an uncharacteristically grim Ove Sprogøe). Lonely and scared, he finds a soul mate in the headmaster's son (Peter Bjerg) and the two boys form a bond that slowly grows into a sexual relationship. Frank and unadorned, this Danish film concluded director Lasse Nielsen's youth-oriented trilogy that began with La' Os Være (1975) and continued with Måske Ku' Vi (1976). ~ Hans J. Wollstein, Rovi

90 Queer Movies to See Before You Die... (100 movies items)

"This film has as much to do with coming-of-age/coming-out-of-the-closet issues as it does document a very precise historical period, an epoch in the recent annals of the country of Denmark, this intimate, yet tenderly sweet film was filmed, and released during a period where the country was considerably more progressively liberal minded. That alone makes it a MUST SEE viewing--in-spite of the fact the characters in it are somewhat younger than what most people are used to. The nature of the film"
