“I wasn’t sure what to expect from this flick but, since I'm huge fan of Joaquin Phoenix, I was quite eager to check it out. In my opinion, even if Phoenix might not be the best actor around, he is definitely one of the most interesting at work nowadays. Indeed, pretty much everything he did after he came back from his fake retirement was worth a look and this movie was not an exception. To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t completely sold though. I mean, as far as I was concerned, this movie did feel half of the time really sweet and genuine, delivering some fully fledged characters in the process, but it did also feel rather pretentious and shallow. It was like the black-and-white cinematography. Sure, it did look really neat, no doubt about it, but, after all, it doesn't mean much though” read more

" Director: Mike Mills His 4th movie My 4th movie watched from the director Mike Mills has the touch. With all four of his films he has mastered theme, tone, natural dialogue, and capturing love, all kinds of love. In this film he turns takes it all on in beautiful black and white in four U.S. cities from the North, West, East, and South. There is so much to love and think about in what is also a simple portrait of an unusual relationship. Added to Lists: Top Ten Performances - Joaquin "

"First viewing - May 9th Showtime This could've just been the interview scenes & I'd still really like it. Thankfully the central story & characters are just as good. Woody Norman is a joy to watch, & as a parent I kept relating to his character's mom & uncle. The humor worked & it's heartfelt & there's nothing I disliked about it. Not sure I'd say it's great, but it's close."
