" Notes: I really loved the damned thing and it was pretty much one of the best love stories I have ever seen. First of all, the whole thing looked gorgeous and I wonder if Todd Haynes had been inspired by Edward Hopper's paintings since this movie reminded me of his work. Anyway, even though I admired the (few) movies I had seen so far directed by Haynes, it was the first time that he impressed me so much. Above all, I enjoyed even more the 2 main characters who were completely developed and so"

"1.1. 2020 A young saleswoman and a middle-aged woman fall in love in 1950s New York but intolerant and regressive society tries to prevent them from fulfilling their natural desires. "Carol" is a quite simplified portrayal of its main subject but it works somehow. The film isn't as brave and powerful as it could've been."

The changeovers were covered in dirt and the first reel went through a struggle, and during the opening credits was trying to keep in focus and not without softening the audio. From the moment Carol leaves the counter to a minute before the first changeover, the two right thirds of the frames were out of focus, but this surprisingly added symbolism"
"2.7. Toinen katselukerta. Pidin ensinäkemällä, mutta tunteet tuntuvat voimistuneen tällä erää kovastikin. Kielletyt katseet ja kielletyt tunteet, omistamisen halu ja omistamattomuuden pakko. Pääosakaksikko on upea."
