Welcome Visitors
Many of the birds and wild creatures that have come into or up to our little garden. Such a pleasure to see the squirrels in particular come close to our window each day for the food. The rabbits stay in the field by our fence but go round to eat the neighbours' flowers. A pair of mallards came for a couple of weeks to the little pond that formed in a hollow of the field after rain. Deer occasionally come from the nearby woods. We also like to feed the horse in a field just along the road. A year ago an adder was in the field. I'm not sure that would be welcome, especially with our little dog. No doubt some other visitors will come to mind.
I'm including a peacock: last place we lived there was a resident peacock others called Billy but we called Majid. He would get in a tizzy when the ducks came for food as well but they would run rings round him. Some years back I was surprised to see an ostrich running in the main street at Brecon; at Bridgnorth more recently a coati was walking in the street. And there are some alpacas on a farm a mile from here.
A heron flew over yesterday. When we lived at Brecon, one would come to nab the fish in the little pond- not so welcome- so we had to cover it.
One night there was a stomping sort of kerfuffle in the wood: of course it was a gruffalo.
