Note : After seeing Avatar, I realized that 3D movies could be great and not a complete swindle. The story is maybe not original but still pretty entertaining and the visuals are just mind-blowing. Coming out of the movie theater, I had probably the same feeling when people just saw Star Wars back in 1977. Just blown away...

A Prophet (2009)
Note : It is such a masterpiece, one of the best French movies I have seen during the last decade. I was already impressed by Audiard's previous directing feature, 'De battre mon coeur s'est arrêté', but this was even better. It is one of the grimmest, dreariest jail drama I have ever seen.

Up (2009)
Note : Though not my Pixar favorite (Wall-E is the best), it is still a great picture. The best part, for me, was the heartbreaking introduction. So daring, so emotional, only Pixar could pull something like that.

In the Loop (2009)
Note : It is the most hilarious movie I have seen in years, it is that good. I'm usually really critical about comedies but this one was just a real riot, especially the first 30 minutes. It is very smart, very witty and so f*cking funny. Furthermore, I'm a huge fan of movies dealing with politics and it must be the best political satire I have ever seen. It is absolutely and definitely worth a look, especially if you like some good old British humor.

Note : It is a fascinating story. I was a bit hard to follow as I'm French and I saw it in Swedish with Dutch subtitles... But still I loved it and this girl Noomi Rapace gave a very strong and amazing performance.

Note : A very interesting and entertaining movie. The 1st half is just great. the 2nd half is little too much action-oriented for my taste but still a very good and original picture.

Note : I was curious about this movie because it is directed by Wes Anderson but also skeptical because I'm not a huge fan of Roald Dhal. No reasons to worry because it was much better than I thought it would be. It is a very original animated movie, it looks gorgeous and I just loved the dialogs. Definitely worth a look.

Watchmen (2009)
Note : What a trip! It must be the darkest super-hero movie, alongside The Dark Knight, of course. Honestly, it took me a while to get into the story but it was worth it. The more you get to know about the characters and their inner struggle, the more I felt captivated by the whole story. And it is a really gorgeous movie.

Notes: Somehow, it did remind me of 'Zodiac' in the way that the main character was obsessed with this case for 25 years. At first, I wonder how they would manage to keep my attention since I (thought I) knew how it would end. Eventually, many unsuspected things happened and I was captivated until the end which was quite impressive as well. I usually don't care much about such twist endings but this one gave much food for thought. I mean, did the murderer really get his rightfull punishment? Didn't Morales become a monster by treating this man this way? Didn't he throw his whole life away to get his revenge which basically meant for him to take care of his worst enemy for the rest of his life? Just like the rest of this movie, it was really intriguing and thought provoking. Basically, this flick takes its time to develop some very interesting characters, even the smaller ones, instead of throwing at us some typical boring gimmicks. Even the unconsumed love story was quite fascinating and the fact that they never ended up with each other made complete sense considering the way the characters were developed.
