Brando refused the role of the young Vito Corleone. Yeah, De Niro did a masterful work. But I can't help imagine how would Brando do it, without any make-up on, the rooftop chase, the killings in Italy...

He also refused, in the last minute, to appear in the flashback sequence in the end of the film as the Old Vito Corleone when Michael says he's going to war.

Brando refused the title role here to shoot Mutiny on the Bounty instead, and when he finally got another chance to work with David Lean, in what would be the director's next film, Nostradamus, Lean died.

Scary Movie 2 (2001)
This was probably a good idea that he passed. It would be his last film. Though, his presence would make it a little less painful to watch.

He would be the exorcist priest in the opening scene, a part that eventually went to James Woods.

Superman II (1980)
The official version of Brando's refusal was that Richard Donner would not direct the sequel. Jor-El would appear in the Fortress of Solitude. It's Superman's mother, Lara, that shows up instead.

And on the Donner verion that was released in 2006, Jor-El appears.

It may be a cliché to say this, but what can I do? He really is the greatest actor of them all.

For some of those, it was a good idea to refuse, but there are those that I wish he didn't.
