The Karate Kid
The Karate Kid (1984)
A story of a boy who moves to California and looks to to Mr. Miyagi to teach him karate so he can stand up to some bullies.
James B.'s rating:

The Karate Kid (2010)
The story of some whiny kid who moves to China and is basically forced to learning kung fu(!?) by Mr. Han so he can stand up to some bullies.
I'm sorry but I'm going to have to start off with this: WHY THE FUCK IS THIS MOVIE CALLED THE KARATE KID? He learns kung fu! Kung fu and karate are two completely different things! They probably made this movie, then realized that it was just a blatant copy of The Karate Kid, so they just took the name and called it a remake. But honestly, the movie is not that bad, except for Jaden Smith, he's kind of annoying. He always tries to argue with Mr. Han(Miyagi), I'm pretty sure he complains about something in every scene. Jackie Chan is pretty good, but he's no Pat Morita.
Winner: Original

The Day the Earth Stood Still
An alien visits Earth and tries to warn humanity that unless they change their ways, the world may be destroyed.
James B.'s rating:

An alien visits Earth, destroys half of it, and then warns humanity that unless they change their ways, the world may be destroyed some more.
Keanu Reeves stars as Klaatu, the fact that he is an alien makes his monotony and all around boring performance almost bearable. However, I still think an alien would have more personality than that. He hangs out with Helen (Jennifer Connelly) and her son Jacob (Jaden Smith, again). The problem with this movie, is that it's so boring. One scene I remember from this movie, is the part when they go to a graveyard and Jacob takes Klaatu to his dad's gravestone. The scene was so out of place and looked like they just threw it in to show you that Jacob wasn't adopted.
Winner: Original by a landslide

A Nightmare on Elm st.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
A cheesy 80's horror film in which a murderer named Freddy Krueger kills off a group of teens in their sleep.
James B.'s rating:

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
A dark movie in which a pedophile and murderer named Freddy Krueger kills off a group of teens in their dreams.
First of all Jackie Earle Haley was awesome as Freddy. Unfortunately the movie goes downhill from there. The movie gives Freddy a back story/mystery. The teenagers try to figure out why all their parents murdered him in cold-blood, and find out he was a pedophile, basically ruining the name of the once bad-ass Freddy Krueger. FREDDY KRUEGER: PSYCHOPATH! MURDERER! pedophile? The movie goes from a cool horror movie to a dark episode of Scooby-doo. Less mystery solving, more random death and gore!
Winner: Original

War of the Worlds
The War of the Worlds (1953)
Martians attack the Earth, a group of people fight to survive while trying to figure out how to beat the aliens.
James B.'s rating:

War of the Worlds (2005)
Martians attack the Earth, a father and his two children go off to find shelter, shaky camera action ensues.
This movie is barely a remake. Basically the only thing they share is a name. I guess Steven Spielberg wanted to show a different perspective on alien invaders. The first one focused on "proper" people, while this one focused on every day people. But both these movie's have one flaw that's almost unbearable to watch. The fact that the aliens just die because they can't handle earth's atmosphere. Really?
