June Elbus (14) recently lost her uncle Finn Weiss to AIDS. She was in love with him and really suffers but doesn't share much with her older sister Grace. Finn's boyfriend of many years Toby makes contact with June and they become good friends. Toby is also dying of AIDS.
Before his death, Finn had painted a portrait of the sisters called 'Tell the Wolves I'm Home'which is found out to be very valuable. To deal with their grief, June, Grace and their mother start adding to it.
