Naruto Shippuuden's run is now longer than the original, the series at present has 262 episodes and counting. It has some of the best story arcs in anime, and the animation is top notch. But with an anime this large there doesn't seem to be an end in sight yet.

Unlike many other anime, the Naruto Shippuuden story has a rich and evolving story and takes pains to make all of its characters fully developed people instead of generic archetypes. That gives the series depth and impact, and many fans have devoted extensive viewing hours to following along as Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke, and the others develop both their relationships and their fighting skills. But it also makes it hard for newcomers to jump in. Bottom line? People who liked the original Naruto will like this series, as will those willing to invest some time to get caught up.

If they keep up what they are doing, then I think this anime would be worth watching 'till the very end.

After watching episodes 261 + 262 I've decided that Shippuuden is now my absolute favourite anime of all time. The 4th great ninja war has begun and it's just epic.

Naruto: Shippuuden is the continuation of the original animated TV series Naruto. The story revolves around an older and slightly more matured Uzumaki Naruto and his quest to save his friend Uchiha Sasuke from the grips of the snake-like Shinobi, Orochimaru. After 2 and a half years Naruto finally returns to his village of Konoha, and sets about putting his ambitions to work, though it will not be easy, as he has amassed a few (more dangerous) enemies, in the likes of the shinobi organization; Akatsuki. ← taken from myanimelist.

Naruto (2002)
Naruto is a very long, but entertaining anime. The series runs for 220 episodes and it's still big even now after it's ended. the animation isn't bad and its improved a lot in Naruto Shippuuden.

This anime has a lot of characters. In every story arc they create new good and bad guys, go into their back stories, and by the end of the arc you grow to love them. When you get so many characters, you can have a lot of material to write. But Characters are not enough to create a great anime, you need a story.

The story is amazing. It is moved along completely by the characters, with very little out side force. Story arcs are all different and entertaining, with the exceptions of the fillers, the story is really good.

There are however a few things dragging down the story, and you can't talk about Naruto with out talking about them.

First, it is long. If you have a low attention span, then some of the longer story arcs feel like a task getting through.

Then there is the evil every Naruto fan knows all about: fillers. Filler arcs are used when an anime that is based off of a manga, like Naruto, catches up with the manga. They are used to kill time 'till the manga is far enough out that they can continue on with the story without problems.

Naruto is really good, for the most part it is fun and entertaining, the characters are good and the story is interesting.

Naruto Uzumaki, a hyperactive and knuckle-headed ninja, lives in Konohagakure, the Hidden Leaf village. Moments prior to his birth, a huge demon known as the Kyuubi, the Nine-tailed Fox, attacked Konohagakure and wreaked havoc. In order to put an end to the Kyuubi's rampage, the leader of the village, the 4th Hokage, sacrificed his life and sealed the monstrous beast inside the newborn Naruto.

Shunned because of the presence of the Kyuubi inside him, Naruto struggles to find his place in the village. He strives to become the Hokage of Konohagakure, and he meets many friends and foes along the way. ← taken from myanimelist.

Dragon Ball Kai is a pure expression of everything that's great about anime. It's got everything: mystical martial arts ... to sci-fi spaceships and teleportation ... to normal people in modern clothes having comical adventures. Humor, tragedy, conflict, it's all there.

DBK = DBZ w/o filler. What's filler? See the following link for a detailed description - answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080803142109AAcJj78

A remastered version of Dragon Ball Z that adheres more to the manga's story. This version includes newly recorded dialog by the original voice actors, new sound effects, new OP/ED sequences, and a brand new HD video transfer. ← taken from myanimelist.

There's two openings, the original, and the one from the English dub, it's the same song for both, but the one from the English dub has been sung in English. I only watched DBK in Japanese, haven't seen the dub yet, I'm planning to though so I'm posting the original opening, the ending is in the same video too.

One special/OVA/ep 98. Was delayed due to the the natural disaster in Japan.

Just started watching this recently and it's already entered the list as my 4th favourite anime.

15-year-old Kurosaki Ichigo is not your everyday high school student. He has from as far he can remember always had the ability to see ghosts and spirits. A fateful day arrives as Ichigo encounters the shinigami Kuchiki Rukia, who saves him and his family from a Hollow at the cost of injuring herself. During this encounter, with Rukia unable to defeat the hollow she transfers her shinigami powers into Ichigo. In the aftermath, unable to continue with her job, Rukia allows Ichigo to take on the role of a shinigami in her place as they together defeat the Hollows plaguing Ichigo's town. ← taken from myanimelist.

This anime adaptation differs in execution from most Shonen Jump anime in that it expands on events of the manga rather than creating “filler” episodes as a method of keeping the story from catching up to the manga’s serialization.

The anime covers the Hunter Exam Arc through most of the Yorknew City Arc of the manga. The OVA concludes the Yorknew City Arc and covers the Greed Island Arc.

The content in the show adapted from the manga is done great. The animation and script are leagues above other attempts at a Shonen Jump manga adaptation. It’s just a shame that they were forced into this slow pace by creating the anime while the manga was having a hard time putting out more chapters.

In the end Hunter x Hunter (1999) is a great anime that’s just extremely hard to recommend. The show has an extremely slow pace and makes more than a few odd changes to the story it’s an adaptation from. Then of course there’s the existence of the 2011 remake which is handled better overall. I’d recommend it to a big Hunter x Hunter fan but I reckon they’ve already gone and watched it. Everyone else should go watch the ongoing 2011 version.

Viewing Order:

• Hunter x Hunter Pilot OVA (1998).
• Hunter x Hunter Series (1999).
• Hunter x Hunter OVA.
• Hunter x Hunter OVA 2: Greed Island.
• Hunter x Hunter OVA 3: Greed Island Final.
• Hunter x Hunter Series (2011).

Believing that his target of revenge is no longer alive and the search for his fallen comrade's eyes could truly begin, Kurapica soon after receives a message informing him that all the Spiders still lived. After much discussion between his friends, Gon, Kurapica and company decided to hunt after the one Spider member who's ability could ultimately result in Kurapica's defeat and death. ← taken from myanimelist.

HxH OVA 2: GI: After the battle with the Spiders, the search for Gin continues as Gon and Killua decided to once again attempt to purchase the rare game "Greed Island". However, Gon came up with a better plan, which was to volunteer to complete the game for the billionaire who owned it. But some training must be done, as Gon and Killua's abilities are still at a developing stage and "Greed Island" is no simple game for anyone to play with. It is the infamous game that could easily lead to one's death. ← taken from myanimelist.

Death Note (2006)
Death Note carries story elements and an intellectual integrity that is more commonly seen in your collegeate literary classics than your usual Shounen Jump title.

Accompanying the Death Note is its original owner, the Shinigami Ryuk. Rather than being morally bound to Light or serving as a conscience or guide, Ryuk hangs around simply to be a spectator--proclaiming humans to be "interesting."

While this itself makes for an interesting plot, what really makes Death Note a top caliber series are the characters who cause an obstruction to Light's mission. Topping the cast is the fan-favorite L, whose character is just beyond description. A shady, mysterious, but somewhat eccentric genius, L is probably the only mind that could match the scheming Light. The cat-and-mouse power-play between the two young men is enticing and riveting, making you laugh (not for comedy's sake) and keeps you fixed on every frame, soaking in all the details and anticipating the next move.

Not quite a masterpiece, but close enough.
Has typos in the notebook rules scenes and some rules seem contradictory, maybe it's just me.

Yagami Light is a 17-year-old genius from Japan who is tired of his life, school, and the state of the world as he knows it. One day, on the way home from class, Light stumbles upon a dark notebook with "Death Note" written on the front. Intrigued by its appearance, Light reads the first few sentences, only to find out that it states that anyone whose name is written inside will die. ← taken from myanimelist.

Two full length movie specials of the series with some extra scenes.

Death Note: Re-Light - Visions of a God:
1. Genshisuru Kami (Visions of a God)
A two hour episode of Death Note, mainly a compilation of the confrontations between Light and L, re-edited from Ryuk's perspective with new dialogue and soundtrack along with additional animation that could not be included in the original series. An Unnamed Shinigami comes to Ryuk to question him about his new story in the human world. ← taken from myanimelist.

Death Note: Rewrite 2: L`s Successors:
2. Eru o Tsugu Mono (L's Successors)
This story continues where the previous left off, continuing the story of Light. As the previous special told Light and L's battles, this story does the same with the conflicts between Light, Mello, and Near. ← taken from myanimelist.

Baccano! (2007)
During the late 1930s in Chicago, the transcontinental train, Flying Pussyfoot, is starting its legendary journey that will leave a trail of blood all over the country. Black Lagoon is an epic action packed anime.

The dub is just amazing, they hired excellent voice actors for the show; dare I say even better than the original voice actor cast and they did the show justice.

Black Lagoon S1:
Okajima Rokuro is a Japanese businessman in a town full of Japanese businessmen. His normal day consists of social drinking with clients and being kicked around by his bosses. He finally gets a break though, as he's sent by his company to the tropical seas of Eastern China to deliver a disc. But his boat gets hijacked by a band of mercenaries hired to retrieve the disc. Rock (as he is newly dubbed by his captors) catches the interest of the only female merc Revy as she thinks he's worth a ransom, taking him hostage. However, the disc that was stolen has a terrible secret that's unknown to Rock, which causes massive confusion and chaos for both him and his kidnappers. ← taken from myanimelist.

Black Lagoon S2: The Second Barrage:
Okajima Rokuro - now known almost exclusively as 'Rock' - was once a typical, put-upon Japanese businessman. Then, on a routine business trip, he was kidnapped and ransomed by the Lagoon Company: a band of mercenary pirates operating out of the crime-riddled city of Roanapur. Abandoned by his bosses, he joined the Lagoon Company. Now he must try and stay afloat amongst the ever-shifting politics of the criminal underworld, while simultaneously avoiding death at the hands of his quick-tempered, gun-toting co-worker, 'Two Hand' Revy. ← taken from myanimelist.

Samurai 7 (2004)
In the far distant future, on a planet that might have been called "earth", there was a war between samurai who mechanized their bodies. After the long war, people enjoyed a modest peace.

Facing starvation and abductions at the hands of fearsome mechanized bandits (Nobuseri), the farmers of Kanna Village make the dangerous choice to hire samurai for protection. The village's water priestess, Kirara, her younger sister, Komachi, and a heartbroken villager, Rikichi, set off to hire willing samurai with nothing to offer but rice from their meager harvests. Through dangerous encounters and a bit of luck, seven samurai of varying specialties and experience are gathered for an epic battle against the bandits and the merchants that influence them.

Note: There's a prequel to GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) called Shonan Junai Gumi (Pure Love Gang of/from Shonan, Young GTO) which I've also seen and it's just as amazing as GTO, you should watch that 1st. I couldn't find it in the search so I couldn't add it to the list.

Edit: It isn't in the IMDB database which is why I couldn't find it with the search function.

Shonan Junai Gumi:

Eikichi Onizuka and Ryuji Danma are members of infamous biker duo, the Oni Baku. When not out riding around, they can be found in school, trying to pick up young women. This is the story of the young Onizuka, who would later become the greatest teacher in Japan, and his partner Ryuji in their quest to lose their virginity and reach maturity.

They are widely feared bosozoku, and are known for their tenacity and viciousness in a fight. However, this lifestyle does not exactly endear them to the opposite gender, so they decide to change their ways. However, this is easier said than done. ← taken from myanimelist.

Note 2: Shonan Junai Gumi was released before GTO.

-------------------------------------------------------

GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka):
Onizuka is a reformed biker gang leader who has his sights set on an honorable new ambition: to become the world's greatest teacher … for the purpose of meeting sexy high school girls. Okay, so he's mostly reformed.

However, strict administrators and a class of ruthless delinquents stand between Onizuka and his goal and they will use any means, however illegal or low, to drive the new teacher away. Perfect, because Onizuka's methods won't be found in any teaching manual; he cares about the difference between legal and illegal activities about as much as he cares for the age difference between himself and a high school girl.

So get ready for math that doesn't add up, language you'd be slapped for using, and biology that would make a grown man blush … unless of course, you're the Great Teacher Onizuka. ← taken from myanimelist.

A massive earthquake ravaged Japan's mainland and destroyed most of Tokyo, sinking three-quarters of it into the ocean.

Ten years later, the story starts with Igarashi Ganta, a seemingly ordinary, unassuming middle school student attending Nagano Prefecture's middle school. An escapee, a survivor of the great earthquake, Ganta has no memories of the tragedy and has lived a simple, normal life. This all changes one day when a strange man covered in blood and crimson armour appears, floating, out of his classroom windows. Smirking madly, this Red Man massacres Ganta's entire class and, instead of killing him, embeds a red crystal shard in his chest.

Within days of the massacre, Ganta is declared the sole suspect and, following a suspiciously quick trial, is sentenced to life imprisonment in Deadman Wonderland, a massive theme-park-like prison. ← taken from myanimelist.

The Diclonius, a mutated homosapien that is said to be selected by God and will eventually become the destruction of mankind, possess two horns on their heads and have a "sixth sense" which gives them telekinetic abilities. Due to this dangerous power, they have been captured and isolated in laboratories by the government. Lucy, a young and psychotic Diclonius, manages to break free of her confines and brutally murders most of the guards in the laboratory where she is being held, only to be shot in the head as she makes her escape. She survives, falling off a cliff into the ocean and manages to drift along to a beach where two teenagers, Kouta and Yuka, discover her. Having lost her memories, she was named after the only thing that she can now say, "Nyuu," and the two allow her to stay at Kouta's home. I'm not really a fan of mecha(mechanical)/machine/robot type anime, but I enjoyed the Broken Blade Movies.

There's no 'best one', they all need to be watched in order. There are 6 Broken Blade movies in total, but I'll just add the 1st one, I count the 6 movies as if it were a series, like any other anime series.

In the continent of Cruzon, an impending war between the Kingdom of Krisna and the nation of Athens is brimming. The people of this land are able to use quartz for whatever purpose they desire. Yet one person, Rygart Arrow, is not. He is an "un-sorcerer," a person unable to use quartz. But this characteristic will enable him to pilot an ancient Golem, one strong enough to put up a fight against the invading army of Athens. ← taken from myanimelist.

Veed's list inspired me in-a-way to make my own list for personal use and for anybody looking for a list of some great anime to watch.
