Twin Peaks (1990)
Notes: This show was just amazing and was actually very influential on shows that came afterwards. It was so ambitious and original at the same time. It is actually a wonder that they agreed to produce this. Imagine if Mulholland Drive became the TV show it was supposed to be....

johanlefourbe's rating:

Notes: After all these years, thanks to Netflix, I had the opportunity to finally watch this show in its entirety and it was a total blast. What a hilarious show, miles and miles better than any other sitcoms I have ever seen (and there were tons of them when I was growing up in in the 90's).

johanlefourbe's rating:

Six Feet Under (2001)
Notes: This is the 1st HBO show I watched and you could see that the production value was much higher than on other networks. Great directing, great acting, spellbinding story,... I'm a huge fan.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Notes: I was probably much too young when I watched this and I probably got a few nightmares but It was so fascinating, I could'nt help watching it. Each time, it was like being immersed in a fantastic world where everything could happen.... Just spellbinding.

johanlefourbe's rating:

MacGyver (1985)
Notes: Back in those days, MacGyver was just the best. The guy could built up anything and it still looked pretty realistic. His attitude was always impeccable (no guns, no drugs, no alcohol, no sex,... actually, 25 years later, the guy sounds more like a bore ! Anyway...). I loved this show so bad!

johanlefourbe's rating:

The Simpsons (1989)
Notes: Easily my favorite cartoon show. I have been watching it for years and I just love it. Funny and sharp at the same time.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Mindhunter (2017)
Notes: Even though the movies delivered by Netflix have been only decent at best, they still deliver some of the best TV-shows right now and this one was also pretty awesome. Just like with 'House of Cards', David Fincher did direct the 2 first episodes but in this case, he also direct the last 2 episodes of the 1st season and the damned thing just looked amazing. On top of that, it is just a fascinating and realistic show with some really interesting characters so I really loved the damned thing.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Game of Thrones (2011)
Notes: Once again, my wife at first wasn't really interested by the damned thing. In fact, months ago, we already gave it a try but, after the 1st episode, we thought it was so confusing, so difficult to follow, that both decided to drop it. Eventually, we gave it a 2nd chance and we both got hooked. Indeed, even though it is rather slow and nothing much really happens, the epic scale is just mesmerizing. Eventually, it won us over and now it has become seriously addictive.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Notes: About 4 or 5 years ago, my brother-in-law showed me a couple of episodes and even though it seemed interesting, somehow, I didn't care much for the whole thing. Well, after all these years, I have decided to give it a 2nd chance, and, this time, I was much more able to enjoy it. Basically, what makes this show really work is the amazing performance delivered by Bryan Cranston.

johanlefourbe's rating:

The Knick (2014)
Notes: Well, it did sound promising but, in fact, it turned to be much better than I expected. Indeed, the whole thing looked great, it was fascinating to behold and Clive Owen gave here easily one of his best performances. Concerning Steven Soderbergh, it was the best thing he has delivered since 'Traffic' and, apparently, it was totally worth it that he went into (temporary) retirement to direct this great TV-show.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Notes: Following 'Breaking Bad', Vince Gilligan came up with easily one of the most successful spin-offs ever made and, of course, I was planning to watch the damned thing at some point. Since I really enjoyed a lot 'Breaking Bad', like everyone else, it is actually rather surprising that it took me so long to finally watch the damned thing but it was definitely worth it. To be honest, 'Breaking Bad' was better though. Indeed, Walter White was and still is a more interesting than Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman but, above all, Jimmy is missing some good supporting characters like Walter used to have. Still, it is a really solid show nonetheless and easily the best spin-off ever.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Narcos (2015)
Notes: Well, the damned thing definitly deserves its stellar repuation, that's for sure. It is also another proof that the Neflix TV-shows are some of the best in the world while their movies are still terribly lacking with a very few exceptions like 'Beasts of No Nation', 'Mudbound' or 'Roma'.

johanlefourbe's rating:

The Wire (2002)
Notes: That's a rather tricky one. The issue here was that I kept hearing for several years that it was one of, if not the very best TV-show ever made so I had some huge expectations. Well, to be honest, even though I really loved the damned thing and even though it must be the best cop TV-show, it didn't turn out to be the best thing I have ever seen though. Basically, even though it might have been amazing when it was released, to be honest, since then, the quality of the TV-shows have greatly improved and I don't think it comes near such modern classics like 'Game of Thrones' or 'Breaking Bad'. Still, it is really solid though.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Notes: Even though this show is not really famous, it did sound really intriguing (I have always been fascinated by the Wu Tang Clan), so I was really eager to check it out. Well, I wasnโt disappointed and it is in my opinion easily the biggest hip-hop biopic out there, no less than that. It did help that they didnโt have to stick to a full-length feature format and, this way, they could take their time to develop the various story-lines. For some reasons, it did also remind me of โThe Wireโ in the sense that both TV-shows went for a grim realistic approach removing a lot of bullsh*t and stereotypes involved in their respective genres.

johanlefourbe's rating:

House of Cards (2013)
Notes: For some reasons, my wife thought it would be a good idea to offer me Netflix for Sinterklaas (some kind of Dutch Santa Claus). Anyway, the first thing I decided to watch on the streaming service was this show and I was seriously impressed. To be honest, I still have to watch a lot of episodes but, so far, I thought it was quite spellbinding and, to be honest, much better than big hits like 'The Walking Dead' or 'Game of Thrones'. Indeed, I think that politics is a fascinating subject and there might never be a better show dealing with this ever again. Furthermore, the cast, especially Kevin Spacey, is really good here.

johanlefourbe's rating:

True Detective (2014)
Notes: Even though it took me some time to convince my wife to watch the damned thing, eventually, she was really hooked and really loved it. To be honest, we both felt that the ending didn't really deliver but, still, the whole thing was quite awesome and completely deserved all the praised it got. I was especially impressed by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as they both gave some of the best performances.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Band of Brothers (2001)
Notes: I thought I might give it a try with my wife but, after the 1st episode, she said she didn't care for the whole thing at all so I ended up watching the damned thing on my own. To be honest, even though it was a really impressive TV-show, it was still missing something to completely blow me away to be honest. Still, it is a classic and pretty much a must-see.

johanlefourbe's rating:

The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Notes: Well, even I really liked it and understand why it has been so much heralded, to be honest, it didn't become one of my favorites. Basically, the concept was really intriguing, Elisabeth Moss is definitely one of the best actresses of her generation and she is always spellbinding to watch in this show. And, yet, there are a couple of things that bothered me with this show. Above all, they are constantly switching the behaviour and personalities of the characters depending of the needs of the plot. For example, June is/was supposed to be an average ordinary woman which made her ordeal even more relatable and horrifying but that already created an issue. Indeed, if she was seemingly so helpless, how was she suppose to achieve her goals like saving her little girl? As a result, time and time again, they turn her into some kind of super woman or, even worse, someone would suddenly show up and provide exactly what she needs at the right moment even if it vastly contradicted what this character had been doing so far. And yet, even if it is flawed, it is usually seriously entertaining though.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Notes: I had some issue to watch 'The Wire' (my brother lend me his complete DVD collection of this TV-show but it turned out that the very first DVD with the first 3 episodes was missing so I ended up ordering again the 1st season on Ebay...). So, while I was figuring out a way to watch 'The Wire', I ended up watching the 1st episode of this TV-show with my wife but, even though I thought it looked pretty cool, she was not really convinced so we moved on right away towards something else. However, when finally managed to start 'The Wire', she liked it even less so we came back to fairly quickly to this TV-show and we have both thoroughly enjoyed it since then.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Notes: Maybe today, it looks very cheesy but back then, it was a pretty cool show. I still remember the 1st day you saw the real face of the 'Visitors', I was rather impressed...

johanlefourbe's rating:

Oz (1997)
Notes: Again a HBO show. A very realistic prison drama (F*ck Prison Break...). It is quite chilling and pretty bleak but definitely worth it.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Wiseguy (1987)
Notes: Back in the 90's, I used to watch this show very often and I thought it was just spellbinding to watch. It was also my first contact with Kevin Spacey who was totally awesome as 'Mel Profitt'. It is definitely a very good and underrated cop movie.

johanlefourbe's rating:

The Wonder Years (1988)
Notes: Maybe if I would watch it again now, I would find it corny but when I was a kid, I really loved this show. It just left so real compared to the other shows I was watching back then ad I could definitely relate to the characters.

johanlefourbe's rating:

The Walking Dead (2010)
Notes: I'm not sure what to make of this one... Indeed, the 1st episode was pretty awesome and the whole thing is really well directed, written and acted. However, does it add anything to the whole zombie genre? I'm not so sure... Furthermore, the ending of the 1st season with the doctor was really not convincing. Still, I definitely enjoyed it though. Eventually, I have watched the 2nd season. My god, there is a lot of talking on this one... Nick loved it as much as the 1st season but I thought it was really heavy and emotionally (suicide, people killing each other, executions,...). At the end, I was really drenched emotionally. Still, strong directing, very good acting and some very well rounded characters, absolutely.

johanlefourbe's rating:

3rd Rock from the Sun (1996)
Notes: I have actually see it only a few times but I always laughed my ass off. The premise is pretty lame and it looks very stupid but the actors are great. It is just freaking hilarious.

johanlefourbe's rating:

That '70s Show (1998)
Notes: I thought this show was hilarious and I loved the settings and all the characters. I wish I had seen more episodes of this one.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Dexter (2006)
Notes: My wife and I, we have just started to watch this show and we have watched only a few episodes so it is too early to really judge it, but, so far, it has been really enjoyable. Indeed, Dexter is a great character and Michael C. Hall (who was already great in 'Six Feet Under') is just awesome here. I'm afraid the show won't be so good after 8 seasons but we'll see and, right now, it is just really fun.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Lost (2004)
Notes: The first season was just great. Maybe the best thing I have ever seen on TV. Great acting and directing. I loved the story about those people stuck on this island and the very nice flashback telling their backstories. I didn't mind much about the weird 'stuff' because I figured they will explain it later on. I was so wrong.... From the season 2, each episodes just kept bringing more and more weird 'stuff' and nothing was explained at all... Very frustrating and disappointing... I watched the whole show and I'm finally done with season 6 but starting from season 2, I did't really care anymore about the story or the characters... Too bad!

johanlefourbe's rating:

Heroes (2006)
Notes: Like Lost, the 1st season was very good. Good acting, directing, story. But at the end of the 1st season, you could feel they lost their edge and season 2 wasn't very compelling anymore.

johanlefourbe's rating:

The Sopranos (1999)
Notes: 3rd HBO show on this list. I was rather disappointed by the Sopranos. I was expecting the best show ever and it was indeed good but not that great. I have just seen the 1st season. Maybe I should try season 2 and give it another shot.

johanlefourbe's rating:

24 (2001)
Notes: I thought it was pretty good. As I expected, the concept of real time action is pretty neat and entertaining. However, during a standard 2 hour thriller, you always have a few improbable twists, can you imagine how many improbable twists they manage to fit in in 24 hours?!? Still, Kiefer Sutherland really rocks this performance and it is rather fun to watch.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Weeds (2005)
Notes: I was rather underwhelmed by this show. I loved the premise and I think that Parker is a very good actress so I was really looking for watching this show but eventually it was nice but not more than that.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Notes: Looking back, the premise sounds so lame and silly but this show was really addictive. I watched it everyday with my brother and sister. Very entertaining.

johanlefourbe's rating:

21 Jump Street (1987)
Notes: I was so young when I watched this, I can't remember it in details. I know it was pretty cool and I definitely enjoyed it.

johanlefourbe's rating:

Party of Five (1994)
Notes: I have no idea why but I was pretty addicted to his show. There were many upcoming actors in this one (Jennifer Love Hewitt, Neve Campbell, Matthew Fox,...)

johanlefourbe's rating:

ER (1994)
Notes: At the beginning, when George Clooney was around, I used to watch it a lot. But I kind of got fed up that the show was more about the doctors' love life than their work which I always found more interesting.
