The Monochrome Set's Greatest Hits

If a song didn't have a serious political agenda to it, it's a song wallowing in self-pity. That's what the musical landscape seemed like filtered through the mainstream bands of 80s Britain. Thankfully there were some who eschewed these trends, and in The Monochrome Set's case, they were a silver lining in a dark dark cloud. With the utilisation of retro 60s guitar riffs and bouncy synths allied with colourful writing, a comedic brand of post-punk rock was born. I tend to find songs attacking anything very direct in their mean-spiritedness but here it contains some of the most subtle and artful piss-taking you would find in any medium.
