Great Geographical Errors in Movies

Sort by: Showing 5 items

Maya ruins in the Amazon?
Why, of course (obvious sarcasm). Why not? It's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The Indiana Jones franchise has a history of historical, geographical and cultural errors, but at least the movies are entertaining. (Hmm, an idea for a future list.)

Taking Lives (2004)
Aside from casting Angelina Jolie and Ethan Hawke, another big error is clearly visible in this one. I only vaguely remember this movie, but in parts which are supposed to take place in Montreal, the Chateau Frontenac is very visible. The Chateau Frontenac, a luxury hotel, is a major landmark in Quebec City.

In one scene, Chloe the Chihuahua and Delgado the German Shepherd are running through what is supposed to be the zocalo (main square) of Mexico City. The main cathedral of Guadalajara is clearly visible.

This one takes place in Culiacan, a major cartel stronghold, so it makes sense that it would be stupid to film in Culiacan. Parts were filmed in San Miguel de Allende, far to the southeast in central Mexico. The Parroquia, the main cathedral of San Miguel de Allende, is clearly visible.

This is an interesting one. First, in one scene, in what is supposed to be Saigon, the Thai flag is visible. Then, in the motorcycle scene, the signs on the buildings in "Saigon" are in Chinese characters, not Vietnamese.

In some movies, the story takes place in one place while the landmarks, etc., of another place are clearly visible.

Here's a website you can check out.
