Sing (2016)
Seen on January 18th in 3D at a United Artists theater and on July 25th as part of the Regal Summer Movie Express.

Fun fact: I first saw this film in November 2016 at a free screening held by AMC Theaters that was held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

This movie has to be Illumination's best film so far. It's more mature than most of their films, and most viewers might be able to relate to the characters and their struggles. My favorite part of this film was the last 20 minutes.

This was my first time seeing the film in 3D, and it was worth it. The only downside was that the auditorium was too hot and they didn't fix the temperature until an usher came into the theater about 10-20 minutes after the actual film began. (They did fix the 3D that wasn't working during the previews almost immediately, though.)

This movie was interesting. I liked how Catherine was able to get through the tough times in her job and her life. I found it boring during several parts for some reason, but it was decent and kept my attention.

My theater was also very crowded. There were lots of old people seeing the movie.

I had a great time seeing this film in theaters! It was a fun movie, and I loved the new dub voices for the characters (especially Chibiusa's voice, which was close to her original English voice) as well as the short at the beginning! In addition, me, my sister, a father and his two young daughters, and two adult males were the only ones in the theater. Quite surprising, huh? (Even the father was expecting more people to be at our screening. I told him that my theory on why no one was there was because everyone else went to the New York City screening and weren't patient enough to wait for a showing closer to my area to happen.)

Aladdin (1992)
Seen on February 12th at a Showcase Cinemas theater.

Note: This screening was part of Showcase Cinemas' Disney's Family Favorites Film Series.

I had a great time seeing this classic Disney film in theaters. There were a lot of families seeing the film, and several of the children seeing it were talking about the film afterwards, which made me happy.

Seen on February 19 in 3D at a Showcase Cinemas theater.

Note: This was my first "double feature" in a theater alongside the Family Film Favorites screening of Frozen. I had fun doing this, and I might do it again sometime.

This movie was better than I expected! It was funny and heartwarming at the same time. Warner Animation Group never fails to make great movies.

Frozen (2013)
Seen on February 19 at a Showcase Cinemas theater.

Short: Get a Horse!

Note: This was my first "double feature" in a theater alongside The Lego Batman Movie.

The movie was great. It was nice seeing this film in the theater again. There was a good number of people seeing the movie, but the theater wasn't as crowded as it was when I saw Aladdin.

Seen on February 25 at a Showcase Cinemas location.

This was a beautiful movie! It felt unlike any Studio Ghibli movie I've seen before. Maybe Studio Ghibli should do more movies with foreign animators like they did on this one, because it was great seeing them do something different.

Seen on March 16 in IMAX 3D at a Regal Cinemas location. Also seen on April 10 at a Regal Cinemas location in a sing along edition.

Note: The first screening screening I saw was the Beauty and the Beast Fan Event version of the film, which also contained Ariana Grande and John Legend's music video for Beauty and the Beast, as well as a featurette with the songwriters talking about working on the live-action adaptation.

I really enjoyed this film! It was a great version of the classic Disney movie. This film has beautiful effects and great new songs, which makes me want it to be nominated for (and win) several Oscars!

When I saw the sing-along, I had fun, but not a lot of people were seeing it, though, and they were instead seeing The Boss Baby.

The Boss Baby (2017)
Seen April 2 in 3D at a Regal Cinemas location.

This movie was just...insulting. It had few good moments, and some elements in the plot reminded me of Storks, which was a superior movie to this one, and I thought that it was a bit of a cheap rip-off of that movie. And don't get me started on that the villain's sidekick who pretends to be mute and retarded, which was the most insulting part of the film!

Your Name (2016)
Seen on April 8th at a Showcase Cinemas location. I saw the English dub version.

This was a beautiful film. I could easily say that it is one of the best films I saw this year!

Seen on April 23 at a Regal Cinemas location.

It was…quite an experience. I was a little confused by the constant playing of pop songs, but it was pretty decent. The animation was beautiful, and I liked how the story focused on Smurfette and how she had to find her purpose in life.
AshleyPureHeart's rating:
Seen on June 1st in 3D at a United Artists theater and on June 22nd in 2D at a Regal Cinemas location.

This might be Nick Kroll's best animated film! His character, Professor Poopypants, was very entertaining, and the whole film had many funny moments!

Cars 3 (2017)
Seen on June 15th in 3D at a Regal Cinemas location.

Short: Lou

This movie was slightly boring. All of it felt like it was just asking the audience to remember Doc Hudson. The only good part of this film was Cruz Ramirez and the Lou short.

Seen on June 25 at a Showcase Cinemas location. I saw the English dub version.

This had the shorts at the end, so I didn't stick around to see them.

I saw this for the first time, and it was adorable and beautiful.

Seen on July 3 in 3D at a Regal Cinemas location.

This movie was okay, and while it had a few good moments, it felt like a rehash of the second film.

Rio 2 (2014)
Seen on July 18 as part of the Regal Summer Movie Express.

Short: Almost Home (Home prequel short)
AshleyPureHeart's rating:
Seen on July 23 at a Showcase Cinemas location. I saw the English dub version.

This contained several shorts at the beginning, but I can't name them all. My favorite ones were this stop-motion live action one about a lightbulb factory and a guy stealing the plans to make lightbulb, and one (I think it was called "Game Over") about video games being recreated with various household objects. This screening also contained the announcement for the Mary and the Witch's Flower release.

This might be the best Studio Ghibli movie that I have ever seen! It caught my attention the whole time, and it was beautiful.

The Lion King (1994)
Seen on August 5th at an AMC Theaters location in a sing-along edition.

I had fun seeing this again in theaters. The only downside was that they changed the showtime without notifying me on Fandango. I was still able to see the whole movie.

Brigsby Bear (2017)
Seen on August 17th at a United Artists theater.

This was one of the best movies I've seen this year! It was an interesting story about how an outsider who was taken from his family tried to find acceptance in the real world, and it also taught how anyone could be able to do anything, regardless of their problems.

Seen on August 27th at a Showcase Cinemas location. I saw the English dub version.

Like Kiki's Delivery Service, this screening also contained shorts, but I don't remember most of them.

This was another great Studio Ghibli movie!

Seen on September 16 at an AMC Theaters location as part of the Dream Big, Princess film series.

I enjoyed it, and caught a few things that I missed when I was younger (such as that guy who was from the mental asylum, the Wilhelm scream playing during the castle attack scene, which I was shocked by, and the funny scene where Gaston gets a band to play for him in the event that he gets Belle to accept his marriage), and noticed the live action version changed a lot of things from the original. I had fun, and at least the film started on time this time, unlike when I saw The Lion King in August, when the film started earlier than the posted showtime.

Tangled (2010)
Seen on September 30 at AMC Theaters as part of their Dream Big, Princess film series.
Seen on October 5 at a Regal Cinemas location.

This film was great. I was a little bit not used to seeing 2D animation on the screen, but warmed up to it by the end of the film. I loved Tempest Shadow. The Hanazuki short at the beginning was adorable and got me hooked on the show. And did I mention that at the screening I went to, me and my sister were the only ones in the theater?
AshleyPureHeart's rating:
Seen on October 7 at an AMC Theaters location as part of the Dream Big, Princess Film series.

After seeing this film, I think it's my favorite film out of the Disney Animated Canon. I liked how unique it was, and how it was a talking animal movie done right!
AshleyPureHeart's rating:
Love Live! Sunshine!!: Aqours 2nd Love Live! Happy Party Train Tour...
Seen on October 15 at Village East Cinemas in New York City.

I had an awesome time at this concert screening! I had lots of fun meeting other Love Live fans and cheering, dancing, and waving my cyalume along with them.
Little Shop of Horrors: The Director's Cut
Seen on October 29th at a Showcase Cinemas location.

I had a great time seeing one of my favorite films on the big screen!
Seen on November 5th at a Regal Cinemas location.

This was a great new take on the Johto series of Pokemon.

It
Seen on November 15 at a United Artists theater.

This was my first true horror movie, and it was great! I like how they made it seem like your average live action kids’ film mixed with horror elements and sex jokes. I only jumped in my seat from fright three or four times.

Coco (2017)
Seen on November 21st at a Showcase Cinemas location in XPLUS 3D, and in 2D at a Regal Cinemas location on December 28th, 2017.

Short (November 21st screening only): Olaf’s Frozen Adventure

This had to be the best Pixar movie I’ve ever seen, and the best animated movie of the year! It was beautiful, heartwarming, and perfect!

The Star (2017)
Seen on December 4th at a Showcase Cinemas location.

This movie was just fine. To me, it felt like a rip-off of Blue Sky Studios films. Even one sequence reminded me of a similar sequence in Rio 2. However, a few scenes made me emotional, and some of the characters were interesting, so I’d have to say that this was at least slightly better than garbage like The Boss Baby.

Seen on December 14th in IMAX 3D at a Regal Cinemas location as part of a double feature with Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

This might have been the best Star Wars movie, in my opinion. It was very unique and interesting.

This was inspired by Max The Movie Guy's lists on here, since I like going to the movies like him, and he's one of my good online friends!

Boy, 2017 was a pretty bad year for wide-release animation. Most of the new animated films that came out were either average or terrible, and there were only four great or excellent animated films this year (six, if you count Your Name and The Red Turtle)! Good thing there was a lot of special events I attended to make up for it, including the inaugural year of Studio Ghibli Fest, and at least the few live-action films I saw were great!
