Blood Diamond (2006)
DVD- 2hrs. 23min.
First Viewing
Gets way too heavy-handed way too often, but it doesn't defeat thrilling action and a pair of powerhouse turns by DiCaprio and Hounsou.
Stray Note: While he's great here, I still feel like DiCaprio should've got the Oscar nod for The Departed.

The French Connection (1971)
DVD- 1hr. 44min.
First Viewing
Gritty and authentic, Friedkin creates a tense, thrilling detective story. Hackman gives one of his finest performances as the brutally committed Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle.

Wall Street (1987)
DVD- 2hrs. 6min.
First Viewing
A good film hampered by heavy-handedness. When it's good, it crackles, but when it isn't, it's really trying too hard. Douglas is the obvious highlight, bringing one of the greatest and most ruthless character's ever, Gordon Gekko.

First Viewing
Pure mind-fuckery going on here, yet the film never buckles under the weight of it all. Aronofsky keeps things moving, getting crazier and crazier as the film progresses. Portman gives a terrific and transmorative performance, her motivations and emotions driving every action in the film.
Moneyball
Blu-Ray- 2hrs. 13min.

The Reader (2008)
DVD- 2hrs. 4min.
First Viewing
A solid, well-acted, beautiful looking movie that at times cloys hard at the viewer (A problem that Daldry has with most all of his films). Winslet's performance is the strongest aspect of the film.
Stray Note: Still don't think it deserved a Best Picture nomination over The Dark Knight, Wall-E, Gran Torino, and several others.
