On Valentine's Day 2013, her boyfriend Oscar Pistorius shot her four times through the locked door of his toilet while she was staying in his home. Her body was cremated at Victoria Park crematorium in Port Elizabeth on 19 February 2013 and the service was conducted by Pastor Kurt Sutton of the Oasis Family Church in Port Elizabeth. Pistorius was arrested and charged with murder. According to Pistorius, he shot Steenkamp believing she was an intruder. On 12 September 2014, he was found not guilty of murder, but guilty of culpable homicide in the case. On 21 October 2014 he was sentenced to five years in jail but only served 10 months. In December 2015, the Supreme Court of Appeals overturned the culpable homicide verdict and found Pistorius guilty of murder. On 6 July 2016 Judge Masipa sentenced Pistorius to six years in prison for murder, despite there being a minimum sentence of 15 years in South Africa.
On 24 November 2017 the Court of Appeal extended Oscar Pistorius' jail term to 13 years and five months.

Around 11 pm, Snider's private investigator called the roommates and said that he had been trying to get a hold of his client since the afternoon, but Snider wasn't answering his private phone. The roommates broke into the bedroom and discovered the nude bodies of Stratten and Snider, both having been killed with his shotgun. Police determined that Snider murdered Stratten, who was 20, then abused and raped her corpse, before turning the shotgun on himself.

A construction worker admitted in chilling detail today that he strangled Adrienne Shelly in her Greenwich Village apartment because she caught him trying to rob her.
Diego Pillco, an illegal immigrant from Ecuador, recounted how he choked the indie-actress,wife, and mother with a sheet, strung her body up from a shower rod and fled — hoping to make the murder look like a suicide.
Pillco, 20, will get 23 ½ years in prison — almost certainly followed by deportation — as a result of today’s Manhattan Supreme Court guilty plea to first degree manslaughter.
Pillco had been doing construction one floor down from Shelly, renovating an apartment where the floor was covered with gypsum dust, and was caught after cops matched his gypsum dust-caked boot bottom to a perfectly-preserved print on Shelly’s toilet lid.
Shelly screamed when Pillco reached for her, he said yesterday.
“So out of desperation, I got scared and I covered her mouth,” Pillco admitted.
“When I noticed she fell to the floor, I was very scared. When she fell to the floor, I saw a sheet, and I decided to choke her — and that’s what happened.”
Here, the judge interjected: “And then you tied the sheet around her neck and you strung her up?”
“Si,” Pillco answered. “Yes, and I made it look like it was suicide.”
He will be 43 years old when released.

Actress Rebecca Schaeffer died of a gunshot wound to the chest after she answered the security door at the entrance to her four-unit apartment building in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles on July 18, 1989. She was 21.
The 19-year-old killer, a resident of Tucson, Ariz., had been obsessed with the co-star of the television situation comedy "My Sister Sam" for two years, sending her letters and trying to visit her.
He videotaped every episode of "My Sister Sam." He clipped and kept photographs of her. He wrote countless fan letters in scrawled handwriting. He composed musical lyrics about the fantasy relationship. But Bardo never met her.
He finally obtained her address through a private detective, who got the information from the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Since Schaeffer's death, access to DMV records has been restricted.
Superior Court Judge Dino Fulgoni found the obsessed fan guilty of first-degree murder. Fulgoni, who heard the case without a jury, also found the man guilty of the special circumstance of lying in wait to kill Schaeffer, requiring a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
"I really feel kind of guilty about all that's happened. My feelings for her were uncontrollable," RJB said. "I was a fan of hers and I may have carried it too far."
