A scientist builds an animated human being - the gentle Edward. Loving suburban saleswoman Peg discovers Edward and takes him home, where he falls for Peg's teen daughter. However, despite his kindness and artistic talent, Edward's hands make him an outcast.

Desperate to get her son into a better school, Rose persuades Norah to go into the crime scene clean-up business with her to make some quick cash. In no time, the girls are up to their elbows in murders, suicides and other specialized situations. As they climb the ranks in a very dirty job, the sisters find a true respect for one another and the closeness they have always craved finally blossoms.

After a flight back home, Sam Hendrix returns with a doll he innocently acquired along the way. When Hendrix leaves for business, the crooks make their move - and find his blind wife Susy alone in the apartment. Soon a life-threatening game begins between Susy and the thugs.
