The Corrections - Jonathan Franzen
not a heartwarming holiday read.
accurately captures the passive-aggressive warfare that is waged in every family: the shifting alliances and the old grudges between husband and wife, parents and children, sisters and brothers. the ending is devastating and hopeful and if you cry a little, it's okay, because there is some heavy shit in here that doesn't always often allow itself to be sentimental.
